I ABSOLUTELY L❤VE the pizza here! They are easily Detroit's BEST pizza place & in all honesty Loui's is actually way BETTER than Buddy's & even better than Cloverfield!
So if you are a fan of Buddy's Pizza {& or if you love pizza, especially DETROIT STYLE PIZZA (which is the very best kind of pizza! – & not just because it was made in Detroit but because you can't beat those crispy corners!) - or maybe you want to try it for the first time ~ or else you just want to find some of the very best pizza you will ever have} you will ABSOLUTELY need to come try a pizza from Loui's! I promise u will L♡VE it❤️‼️ This is truly a hidden little gem 💎
~I will say that I do wish they had a few more topping choices like Cheddar, Asiago, Broccoli, & Minced Garlic. & That they were open longer hours & more days, but 🤔 maybe their limited hours of operation are part of the larger staffing issue we often see these days? Or it may be part of the reason why they keep it [somewhat] simple & totally original. (*because Buddy's & Cloverfield both have multiple locations & as soon as that happened their Pizzas [both] went downhill; whereas Loui's just has the one location and they make the very best pizza in the entire world 🌎! Maybe even the universe!?)
Their service can be a little hit or miss at times, but that's anywhere really, & it's never reflected on the end product- that's to say I've NEVER gotten a pizza from here that I wasn't happy with. ‐so honestly the only "negative" thing that I have to say is that the hours of operation are fairly limited & there's only the 1 location (which I happily drive all the way across two for the pizza at least a few times a month & whenever I'm over that way I always pick up a pizza - IF they're open) ... & actually it's not necessarily even that it's a "negative" thing as much as it is just somewhat frustrating or annoying at times, since it can be/has been fairly inconvenient - more than once or twice. (& to be fair, IDK if it's just been more of a 'recent thing' because of staffing issues since covid, or if it's always been that way) but I'd just recommend calling 1st before driving out there tho.
& they are usually closed on/around most holidays too) So there has been more than a few times when we had planed to order a bunch of pizzas from Loui's, either for a Party, or a get together, or else even just a quiet night in, only to find that they were closed!😟😒
But whenever we are able to get our pizza from Loui's they most certainly do not disappoint! 🤩😋😍 ....& I suppose it sort of makes it feel or seem like they are a little bit more 'Exclusive' in a way.
So I will say that if you have never been here, I can PROMISE you that they ARE MOST DEFINITELY WORTH taking a trip out to Hazel Park Michigan to give 'em a try! You will NOT be disappointed, especially if you love pizza!! ...& specifically, if u love Detroit style pizza.
& most of us here in Michigan know that Detroit style pizza🤌🏻 is the best👍🏼 way to get make, get, & eat pizza! And Loui's is at THĒĒ VERY TOP of the list for ALL Detroit style pizza... with Buddy's & [the ORIGINAL] Cloverfield (on Gratiot in Eastpointe) usually at a tie for 2nd - but since Buddy's cooks change pretty often you're always at the mercy of how well Buddy's cook does that day & at that location – as they have about a dozen locations now🙄 & if I'm being honest NONE of them have been any good at my last few attempts to eat there (plus Buddy's is really over priced now too); whereas THIS Loui's is THĒĒ ONE & ONLY!! & so they basically ALWAYS just do it right to make it the best! 😋 (*& that also means that their cast iron pizza pans have been well seasoned over the years & truly, you can really taste it too!)
*JUST BE SURE TO CALL & CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE OPEN FIRST BEFORE YOU MAKE A TRIP THERE! ☆But u WILL DEFINITELY want to make that...
Read moreMy son read a recent review-and excitedly wanted to try Lou’s pizza. Being an hour from our home-we decided to go and give the pizza a go! So, we were placed on a “waitlist” which is understandable..to a point. After waiting for an hour to be seated-we squished thru the crowded, dark, sport bar type atmosphere-and got a small booth, and I mean small! My husband is 6’7”, and my son at 6’4” big boys-and I was trying to fit my top half in, and breathe at the same time. Miserable! Anyway-we were still game to just eat and go..but then, the waitress said, “you do know it’s an hour and a half (or more?) for food. Is that still, ok?” No! It’s not! I was done. I made the decision to leave. So, the pizza is worth 3 hours of my life..plus 2 hours more for drive time round trip? Naw. Well, a week later the guys talked me into a second time for this place..but this time we ordered ahead for pick up-instead of that wait+dining room..We called in the pizza-and off we went to Hazel Park. They have an outdoor canopy for their wait staff to handle carry-out orders which was really nice! I thought that was a super great idea! They bring out and deliver it to the vehicle-I’ll tipped well for this service! I did appreciate not having to fight the line out front to get the order for sure! It was right out of the oven piping hot-which is how I want my food. So, that was a bonus. Ok, we paid and received our pizza at a good rate of speed-and we went to a liquor store for their forgotten napkins, and to buy a pop. I noticed the seat was super greasy where I sat the pizza in the back seat next to me. I just wiped it down-and we started to get everyone a piece of pizza-the long awaited dinner. I’m not a fan of the grated tomatoes on top-so I just knocked it off, carried on- and took a few bites. The grease was just dripping down my hand, arm, and ended up all over! Still, I continued to go along with it and I kept wondering why the tomatoes or whatever was so..chewy? I decided to do a deeper dig to look closer-and yep!! There it was..under the cheese..SO much PEPPERONI was placed on top of the dough-coated in the sauce, buried in greasy cheese with mushrooms covering the top it. I ordered a plain cheese pizza, add mushrooms-easy enuff? (The mushrooms were delicious) BUT WE DO NOT EAT PORK!! I was MORE than upset when I tried calling back to tell you there was a big mistake with our order; and to see if our pizza was still there..it just rang and rang. So, we left to go home very unhappy-with a bad taste in my mouth for this place! I personally don’t get what the big whoop is about, but I guess this review was enticing the reader’s to “find out.” I wanted to let you know that it made me sicker than heck.. for 2 days! You should really have some kind of check in place when someone requests it a certain way-it’s for a reason! NO PORK-is it that hard? Now, I’m sure you don’t care about this one family’s order (since the day before you had to close bad you ran out of pizza dough after selling 750 pizzas)-but if you keep disrespecting people when they have certain dietary restrictions/requests- they won’t come back either!...
Read moreThe absolute BEST Detroit Style Pizza and there is no debate. I love the other big spots, but they don't hold a candle to Loui's. The second you walk in, the vibe is right. It's like stepping back in time. The old booths, chianti bottles on the walls, and lack of frills are what makes this place special. You feel more like eating at a friends house then at a bar.
Obviously the pizza is the star here, but don't ignore the other items. The cheese bread is ridiculous, loaded to the brim with gooey, melted cheese and that perfect crispy crust and served with a huge bowl of absolutely delicious homemade marinara.
The salads are all great - the greek will surprise you but you can't go wrong with any of them! And the sandwiches are a hidden gem too, don't sleep on them for a great lunch when you want something besides pizza.
But the pizza is what really helps loui's stand above the rest.
The Crust: The thick, buttery crust is the foundation of everything at Loui's. It's caramelized to perfection on the edges, offering a satisfying crunch that gives way to a soft, airy interior. It's the kind of crust that you can't help but devour, even if you're already stuffed.
The Sauce: Loui's uses a unique tomato sauce that's simple yet bursting with flavor. It's not too sweet or too acidic, and it complements the other toppings perfectly.
The Cheese: Loui's doesn't skimp on the cheese. They use a generous blend of mozzarella and brick cheese, which melts intogooey, decadent perfection.
The Toppings: While the iconic pepperoni is always a crowd-pleaser, Loui's offers a ton of other options. My personal favorite is double olive (black and green), but there is no wrong answer here.
Ultimately, Loui's is part of the foundation of Detroit Style pizza, and is a must try. The staff is great, prices are reasonable, and you won't leave hungry or...
