Used to visit this restaurant some years ago when still on Alter St. We loved the food, oh my!! Delicious! Dimitri could see us from the little kitchen and immediately knew my husband wanted Chile rellenos! It was always wonderful!! I’d usually get the ribeye steak with sautéed onions, melted cheese, etc. Always delicious as well. Very sweet family and children. We moved to California a few years or so, then back to PA. Tonight was our first trip to the restaurant at its “new” location. Totally different experience!!! We could barely understand our waiter he barely spoke and almost a whisper! We both had the ribeye dinners. On mine the ribeye was over cooked and chewy, onions way undercooked, and no melted cheese, only a slice of cold cheese sitting next to the steak! Yuck! I asked the waiter when he finally checked on us if they could melt the cheese on the steak and he just looked at me and said Ohh I don’t know…. and just stood there saying nothing then walked away! So I only ate s few bites of that entire meal. No thanks. Not worth eating. SO different from Alter Street days!!! What a shame. Sorry Dimitri! We still love you but not the food or the staff or the new location! Hope it goes better for others than it was...

Food was made by someone who wants to enjoy life while eating. Can hands down say, if not one of the best, possibly THE best Mexican restaurant we’ve ever been to. Delicious doesn’t really cover how good the food was. Portions are great. Food came out fast. Presentation was really good too! Our server was was so sweet and attentive. Restaurant is spacious, well laid out and very clean. Bathroom is lovely! I was surprised when I walked in, like taken aback by how much time and thought they put into the bathroom. Very clean. Loved it! Too bad we were just passing through. Suuuuuuper duuuuuuper recommend! :) Husbands quesadillas are super recommend worthy, he usually feel yucky and inflamed after most restaurant food, but he made the point to mention that he felt really good after eating that meal. He exclaimedly expressed his appreciation for the flavor of his dish.

I had the big burrito and the green salsa especially made a wonderful combination with the tasty steak inside.

My daughter’s children’s plate was hefty and she scarfed it down. Thumbs up for that! The server was especially sweet to our daughter. Thanks for that.

Thank you El Mariachi and staff,...

My family was traveling and we’re excited to find a Mexican restaurant with good reviews. We were thinking it was a great choice when we arrived to find it was in an old church. However it went downhill from there. We asked about cheese dip (white Mexican cheese dip) and the waitress seemed stunned. We always get cheese dip for chips when we get Mexican. We never received the dip and after reading the menu learned they only had nacho cheese. For my family of 6 we were given two small baskets of chips which my 6 year old devoured quickly. When my wife asked for more chips were we’re told the baskets were $2 each. I’ve never seen a Mexican restaurant where I had to pay for extra chips. The menu was difficult to read and written mainly in Spanish. We finally located And ordered quesadillas for our family and plain for our kids. My kids like their food plain. (Chicken and cheese)and we made it clear to the waitress. When the food arrived about 30 minutes later the quesadillas were covered in sour cream. I’ve never waited more than 10-15 minutes for food at any of our local Mexican restaurants. Our family was very disappointed with...

We ordered Enchiladas, 4 tacos ( Canitas, Carne Asada, chorizo, and Spicy Pork) with rice and beans. The best was the chorizo taco, spicy pork taco, Enchiladas and the rice. I would go back and get any of those. For the worst the carnitas where dry, Carne asada had no flavor, and the beans had zero seasoning like they just got boiled out of the can and where served. I was disappointed because at 1st glance the rice and beans look delicious but then when you eat the beans it ruins the whole meal being satisfying. If I could suggest anything I would say marinate the Asada better, season your beans or add meat to them, and have the staff look more professional with matching uniform or t shirts.

A random Google search for Mexican restaurants in Hazelton and we found a gem. The waitress made it seem as if they had no veggies for a vegetarian enchilada but she went back and checked with the chef, they could make it. I didn't have high hopes of anything spectacular but was I wrong. It was the most gourmet vegetarian enchilada ever. Peppers, fresh diced tomatoes, cauliflower and broccoli. I loved it! Plus the rice and beans were a perfect side as well as the chips and salsa served when you sit down.

The food here is excellent. It is not "Americanized Mexican." I took my father here and he told me the food here was more like he actually ate in Mexico. Two downsides. First the credit card machine was broken. It was necessary to find an ATM and get cash. Second, the decor doesn't really seem Mexican. El Mariachi moved here just after or during COVID-19. If I had to guess, I would say it was previously an Italian restaurant. Mexican accents have been added, but Corinthian columns aren't really Mexican.
