First Impressions are EVERYTHING! We were told this is a great spot. We were seated just about right away. Drink order taken pretty quick. My boyfriend ordered a beer. When drinks were dropped off, Joe the waiter offered him a cold glass. He got busy and hadn't made it back.yet. A waitress with short dark hair walked by our table on her way outside and threw menus on our table. Never did come back and get them. She did eventually come to ask if we were ready to order which we weren't and I had asked for my boyfriends cold glass. After left, the.giy brought the cold glass. She came back with one and saw we had it already and she turned around and stormed off. She finally came back after about 10-20 minutes to take our order. My boyfriend asked about the hor wings. She didn't recommend them because they come out burnt on the outside and cold.on the inside. She finally answered the question of how many. She said I'm just letting you know how they are. I can bring them to you if you want. Just letting you know before you yell at me. My boyfriend was looking at the menu for something else. My daughter and I.could have ordered and he order last. The waitress told us there were other places to eat at and shr didn't want us to leave because my daughter was cute. She didn't give us a chance to order before she just turned around and walked away telling us to call when we are ready. Amazed by her attitude the whole time, we ofdered.to pay out drinks. Joe didn't make us pay the drinks. Joe was great with as busy as he was and friendly with each interaction we had with him. She needs some serious customer service and table side manner training. Had she NOT come to our table. We would have been just fine ordering. We wouldn't have been...

The food was good until it wasn't. We were in a group of 15, a few of us had to send our drinks back due to the cups being filthy and having food stuck to the inside and outside. The ice in the cups had black specks. This happened 3 times for 1 person, twice for me, and another twice and then he gave up and just didn't drink his water at all. Anyone who ordered hashbrowns ended up with raw potatos so those were inedible as well. The coffee was horrible it tasted burnt and the bottom of my cup had coffee grounds stuck to it. Those of us who had coffee ended up really sick. Some of the creamer was soured as well. The food was ok until I pulled a long hair out of the middle of my omelet. I couldn't finish it after that. My son also had hair in his grilled cheese sandwich. So he didn't get to finish his meal either. We all left to go tackle our plans for the day and 5 of us ended up with such bad stomach cramps we had to cancel and stay near a bathroom the rest of the day. 5 more of us had the runs the rest of the day. My son threw up when we got home and has complained of stomach cramps and pain all day. 2 of us ended up with such bad heart burn (one of which was a healthy 16 yr old) that they've been taking tums and pepto all day. I love this place so today was a huge let down and disappointment. I feel bad from family who visited states away and ending their vacation sick. The waitress was awesome, very friendly and just kept apologizing until she jumped all over my cousin for something out of his control. She was very rude. The atmosphere was awesome and homey as well. As a hang out spot it's ok. But after today I will never eat...

Came along for a family meal with my wife and mother who is visiting us on holiday! Thought a lovely lunch would be great for a day out in helper

We ordered our food and waited 55 mins. We received one order after 55 mins, I encourage wife to eat.

The servers began to serve 3 other tables

after 1 hour 10 mins we received our other two orders of food finally.

The steak was cold and over cooked the eggs were cold the harsh browns was burnt and cold.

After less than 5 mins a server dropped a receipt on our table without asking if the food was ok.

The First Lady that toke our order returned and was very nice asking if all was ok, when I started to say what was wrong and how the bill was dropped 5 mins after we started finally eating without the server asking if all was ok, we were attacked by this server in a change of tone. Turns out it was the owner and she told us not to return to her establishment again and she would buy our meal for us not to return again. The owner proceeded to 4 other table complaining loudly about customers who don’t understand how things are when busy.

Sadly I think we caught balance rock at a busy time where they had 2 servers for over 16 full tables. We appreciate that the meal was compensated but completely embarrassed when the owner continually berated us to her customers. We only try to raise a concern when we were given food 15 mins apart from each other and the food was cold.

Would not recommend on a holiday weekend...

On our way to Moab, we stopped to check out Helper. It’s a cute town with a few interesting shops and galleries. Hungry for lunch, we ended up here — literally the only place in town that was serving at the time. The restaurant is in an old building (like the rest on Main Street) with big front windows. Inside, it’s large and spacious, with a wide-open area in the middle and a second-level balcony that looks down on the lower floor. Lots of history in the space. There were several other groups dining when we arrived. It was reasonably quiet and easy to have a conversation. We were greeted right away and took a small table. After getting some water, we ordered beverages and food: a BLT sandwich and the Steak Quesadilla. It took a while for our food to arrive, but the server explained there had been a mix-up and they had to remake our order. When it came out, everything was fresh and hot. The quesadilla was nicely grilled, and the steak had a lot of fat (which I like, though others may not). The BLT came on thick bread, so it was best eaten open-faced. After the food arrived, we didn’t see much of our server again. There wasn’t any check-in on how the food was until the bill came. Service was efficient, but not especially friendly. We also weren’t told, but later discovered, that you don’t pay the server — there’s a cashier at the back near the kitchen where you settle your bill. Overall, a decent lunch, but not a place I’d put on my “come back to” list.

We had a little business to conduct in Helper. Never had a reason to stop in before. But turns out it's a cool little town! Lots of cool buildings and old signs. We got hungry, afternoon lunch. Balance Rock was recommended. Really liked the seating and atmosphere. Many great options on the menu. Not too pricy, particularly when fast food had closed that gap a lot in the last several years. Got a Reuben and Fish and Chips. We were told the house fries were really good. The fries weren't exactly our style - kinda 'wet' and not very cooked. Reuben was good but not mind-blowing. Fish and Chips were good, not great. Simple house salad had some peppers and diced onions. Clam chowder was very hot (which I love), but very, very thick. Free scone with dinner is a nice touch. Would prefer honey over honey butter. But that's just me 😉 Overall it was a nice lunch. Enjoyed the food, but it didn't differentiate enough from most standard offerings for the same items. The staff was very good. Attentive. Helpful. Nice. The serving sizes were good. We don't eat a ton and we ended with leftovers. Recommend if you need to stop for food in the area. Definitely worth a visit. But maybe not on my favorites list for food.

What an absolutely mind-blowing place! I can't even begin to describe the sheer delight of bonding with my father-in-law over the two-person urinal—talk about a bonding experience that’ll go down in family history, right? It was hilariously awkward yet strangely memorable! Then there’s the meal-sharing tradition my in-laws have, and I have to say, the waitress didn’t just serve their dish; she delivered what felt like a culinary masterpiece on two perfectly separated plates. I mean, is that even normal? It seemed like she had a magical power to elevate a simple meal into a dining spectacle! And let’s not forget, this gem sits in nostalgic downtown, which definitely adds to the charm—if that’s your thing. Every moment here is etched in my memory, and while I can't recommend it enough, I wonder if everyone would feel the same. It’s an experience you might just never forget—or maybe you will!
