Sealand — Restaurant in Hempstead

TLDR; Adjacent to a convenience store. Some good mixed with some not so good. Good: service and boiled crab legs were great. Well seasoned and slightly spicy. Bad: burgers and Vietnamese food

First of all, the service was great. Presley was our waitress and she was friendly and attentive. She remembered things that I would have expected her to forget like the fact that the dish I ordered includes egg rolls but the kitchen didn’t include them. We were eating pretty early on a Tuesday and several people came in to pickup to go orders.

The boiled crab was great. Well cooked and seasoned. I’d come back for that. It includes a potato and half corn cobb.

They also have a Vietnamese menu. Being so close to Houston I thought that they would be able to make good Vietnamese food. I ordered pork vermicelli with egg rolls. Unfortunately, it seems that the kitchen no longer remembers how to make this dish. The pork was battered and had an overly sweet sauce to it instead of an umami flavor. The kitchen argued with the waitress that the dish doesn’t include eggrolls but she showed them on the menu that it does. The eggroll was good, cooked right really hot like you would expect any Vietnamese eggroll. The vermicelli was not cooked properly, a bunch of it was clumped together as if they threw it in the boiling water and never tried to stir it once. We ordered soft spring rolls and they were too loosely packed and had only shredded lettuce and shrimp inside which made them hard to dip in the sauce. The peanut sauce was ok, but it tasted store bought and had no peanut chunks inside. No sriracha was offered.

Some people in our party ordered burgers. They looked pretty tasteless, and the people eating them agreed. They have huge buns, and thick patties, but the most important thing, the seasoning on the burger was lacking. There was no visible char on the Pattie’s so I assume they were cooked (or reheated) on a flat grill.

In terms of the place, it was not very clean. The restrooms were clean, but the floor in the restaurant had visible stains and I saw at least one squished bug on the floor which I did not want to identify.

I’d give this place another chance, but it really needs to shrink the menu and improve in cleanliness. They need to prune the menu of food that the kitchen doesn’t know how to...

The place is disgusting! Roach infested and they wont do anything About the problem. Multiple food poisoning from people. They spray the roach spray around open food while customers are there and the owners are very racist. They openly let children run through the bar area. It always has a sour smell. The food is not fresh nor is it cooked when order, some orders are reused, even a day later. Especially the boiled shrimp.

Edit to add!!! It is not required by law for you to pay the gratuity!!! Especially if you are not happy with service or meal. The gratuity is for the tip and because business has been slow that have tried to make you tip pretty much. By law as customer if you do not want to pay the gratuity they are to take that part off!!!

The food used to be hood would drive almost 50 min every Friday and spend no less than $150 +. Since January of this year the food has been horrible. So my family and I decided to give it one more try. It is very expensive. They put food on the wrong plates . Did not try to fix it. They were bringing things we didn't ask for. Made us give a tip on the bill. She tried to explain that it was the law. The crabs looked like they were purchased of the black market. The reason we stop going before was because the crabs were still frozen and had black spots that ate through the shell. She tried to explain it was the shipment and the crab was cold because of the air conditioning in the building. This place is horrible not 1x bad experience but 3x so I'm done negative stars .
