Literally ate here today for the first time in over 30 years! New ownership. Clean. Could use some "down home" type decorations.
Anyway, food was good. Companion had club sandwich, I had pork tenderloin. Club was good. Tenderloin was pretty basic "Sysco" type frozen tenderloin but wasn't bad. Chocolate pie was homemade and excellent.
Next time can't wait to try breakfast. Way back when, breakfast was THE thing Eastgate Restaurant was known for. That and the all you can eat fish on Friday nights.
UPDATE: Ate here again on a Wednesday night. Spaghetti was on special and was very tasty (with meat sauce). It came with garlic bread (homemade but tasted a bit off) and 2 other sides (I got a cup of soup and bowl of fruit from salad bar). Oddly enough a side salad is not one of the "sides" options (at least not without paying an extra $2 or so just for the salad). All in all, still a tasty dinner and a solid option in Henderson.
UPDATE 2: Decided to try again this evening and got same spaghetti special since it was Wednesday.
The good: Had soup from salad bar first. Good. Spaghetti was tasty.
The bad: Blondish/brown hair from cook was on my garlic bread (pretty obvious where it came from... hair nets should be mandatory as baseball caps and bandanas don't cut it). The soups looked a little stiff (at 6:15pm) and just a suggestion on salad bar placement; putting it in front of the window with the setting sun is a fly magnet. If it were me, I'd put it against the wall in the right side room (right if you're sitting at the bar). No direct sunlight, no windows, fewer flies. Just place tables back across the front where salad bar is now. Lastly, the spaghetti was a small serving, served in a bowl.
Would I go again? Yes, I'll try again in a couple of months to see if any change. If no changes I might be out,...
Read moreThe start of my first official day in Kentucky kicked off at Eastgate Family Restaurant. My friend whoâs from here advised that Eastgate Family Restaurant has the best breakfast in the city. Based on what he said I had to go.
As Eastgate Family Restaurant sits in a parking plaza there is ample parking. Upon walking it you are met with a sign to seat yourself. The restaurant is huge but has the feel of a small down home diner. The decor is very simple and dominated by gray tones.
Once seated we were greeted by Lisa who was all smiles and midwest charm. The menu has an abundance of options but the breakfast section was calling my name. LoL!
As I watched the servers bring out some other dishes I had to think long and hard about what I wanted. Being that my tastebuds weâre all over the place I decided to go A-La-Carte, donât judge me.
Food:
Grits - The grits were plain. There was nothing special about them overall but they satisfied my desire for some grits. The serving size was very generous and after adding 6 packs of butter I was happier. LoL!
Bacon (well done) - The bacon was the bomb. It was thick and well done just how I like it. Even with being well done it still had the robust flavor profile of smoked pork. Truth be told, I would come back for the bacon alone.
Home Fries (well done and add onions) - The home fries were thinly sliced which made the crispyness even better. Though they were thin they still had the softness in the middle. They hit the spot.
Overall, Eastgate Family Restaurant was a good meal with great service at a great price. Itâs worth a visit if youâre in the area and looking for home cooked flavor without...
Read moreWhen we got to the restaurant, it looked a little busy but still had plenty of tables available. We got seated right away and then the wait. Our server got to is and he asked us what we'd like to drink. 3 sweet teas, one with lemon. Said they dont have lemon but would lemon juice be alright, we said yes. 10 minutes later, we got tea. We placed our order and one of us asked for soup along with her order and asked if it could be brought to her before our lunch and the server said yes. 20 minutes go by so she finds him to remind him she'd like her soup before the meal. 15 more minutes and the soup finally arrives. A table next to us who was there before we even arrived go so exasperated that they just left without their order because of how long it took. 20-30 more minutes and the people who left, their food is done but the other member with me says she will buy their food to take some of it to her husband who was at home. They give it to her for no additional cost (hence the 2 stars.) 20 or so MORE minutes and our food finally arrives. It was barely ok and somewhat warm. We ate, left a decent tip, and told the lady at the front counter, who didn't move or try to help anyone, that it's one of the worst experiences we have had and probably wont return. She said I dont care, doesn't hurt my feelings. Also, the one who got the soup was sick the rest of the day. Just avoid yourself the hassle and go...
