First of all this place is only authentic Mexican food and cannot be beaten in that aspect. I have been coming here for close to 10 years. The family that runs the establishment is super nice and I actually went to high school with the son. Yes this place is a hole in the wall on the wrong side of town. That doesn't stop me from going there because they have plenty of cameras around the building and iv never felt like someone is going to rob me or break in my car. Not once has anyone ever tried to ask me for money or even approached me which I cannot say for any gas station or walmart. Now on to the food. I absolutely love the enchiladas verdes! That would be my first recommendation. The tomatillo sauce on the chicken enchiladas just makes it for me. It comes with rice and beans which are good too. I will usually get a mango drink or horchata with my meal. The tacos are really good too. I get steak with cilantro onions and cheese. You can never go wrong with those and just add some green salsa plus a squeeze of lime. If I don't get the enchiladas Verdes then I will get 4 steak tacos. This is the best and most authentic Mexican food I have ever had and probably ever will. Yes it is a hole in the wall but the service is great and the food is extraordinary. My dearest friend and I were driving home from Asheville, and we wanted good Mexican food not far off our route. As a child living in New Mexico, so many of the good Mexican restaurants were small "dives," much like the Henderson Mexican Restaurant, that I was instantly taken back to 65 years ago... Let me tell you, this little restaurant did not disappoint us! Both their green and red salsas was unbelievably delicious, with the perfect amount of heat and fabulous flavor. My (vegetarian) cheese enchiladas, with rice and beans were some of the best I've had in years! Ellen ordered the tacos and honestly, I don't think I can remember a meal where we both ate everything off our plates, it was that good. Added to the delicious fare, that the family was friendly and courteous, the service was faultless and the restaurant and bathroom were very clean, and well, what's not to love?!?! I am a trucker and me and my wife have set out to find Tacos that come close to the tacos we get here. Hands down they have the best street tacos anywhere we have come across. So glade this place is in my home town. If I could give them 10 stars I would. I would love for America's great Eats and Dining television show to put this place on television so they could get the recognition they deserve. Once the power went out and they couldn't except any card transactions so the owner told everyone to just pay when they could come back.
