China King — Restaurant in Henderson

If I could give this establishment zero stars, I would.

I recently visited this restaurant to pay for an order and had an extremely unsettling experience. The man at the register took my card and repeatedly inserted and removed it from the payment machine. He then walked away to get receipt paper, returned, and continued fumbling with my card. When I asked if there was an issue, he didn’t respond, and after more attempts, told me the transaction wasn’t going through.

I then asked to use Apple Pay (which is linked to the same card) and that too was declined. At this point, his demeanor became even more unpleasant. He snatched the food away and made dismissive remarks, clearly implying that I was trying to get food without the means to pay.

I left and immediately went next door to Food Lion, only to find my card had been blocked due to suspected fraudulent activity, almost certainly triggered by the excessive number of failed attempts he made. I then had to go to my bank, have the card unlocked, and withdraw cash. I used that cash to eat elsewhere China Kitchen (which is located on Andrews Avenue by the water tower) where I received better service, a better price, and a better-quality meal.

This experience also brought back a troubling memory from a few years ago, when a staff member at this same location falsely accused me of using counterfeit money... a situation I have never seen happen with their fairer skinned customers.

I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to anyone, especially people of color, given the repeated signs of discriminatory behavior and poor customer service. The food is mediocre at best, and it’s far from being the top-rated Chinese restaurant in Henderson. Recent reviews confirm similar concerns about food quality and service.

Spend your hard-earned money where you are respected, and where the food and the people serving it...

Will not be returning to this place, ever. The service was actually not bad, the woman working the register was friendly. My food came out in about 10 minutes maybe a little less but that was the only positive thing about my experience. I ordered two combination platters and substituted lo mein instead of rice. There was a $2 charge for lo mein, which normally wouldn't bother me except they barely gave me any at all. As for the chicken on both of my platters there was barely any of that either. I paid $22.45 for maybe one platter of food (quantity wise) at any other Chinese takeout place. If i were to get the ecact same thing anywhere else i would pay around $16-$18 and get twice the amount of food. Please do not waste your time and money with this place. I admit the food was not bad but just not worth it. I highly recommend the Chinese takeout place in Hilltop Village beside the Food Lion in Oxford(the only reason why i went to China King is because i was already in Henderson) that is the place I usually always go to and will definitely not make the mistake of not...

Called my order in before my lunch break. Got in the store and the credit card machine wasn't working. After waiting my entire lunch break for her to say the machine wasn't working, I asked her was she going to provide a discount for my food being cold, and me having to spend money to bring cash back.
