My family stayed at Etowah Valley Golf and Resort for an extended period while relocating to western North Carolina. This provided us with the opportunity to know the Resort very well. We stayed in both the North Lodge and the South Lodge as well as two different cottages. ||||We had a delightful time at Etowah Valley Golf and Resort! The rooms and cottages were very comfortable and extremely clean. All of our rooms were dog friendly, which was critical to us. The management and staff were warm and friendly to our four-legged family member! We found Etowah Valley Golf and Resort to be quiet, comfortable, family friendly and relaxing. The Resort is centrally located near Brevard, Hendersonville, Mills River, Arden and Asheville, which are all easily accessible. ||||Outdoor activities abound around Etowah, all of which are a short drive from the Resort. At nearby Dupont State Forest there is an abundance of great hiking, clear mountain streams, and stunning waterfalls (our favorite was a tie between Triple Falls and High Falls). ||||The Davidson River is minutes away and is renowned for some of the best trout fishing in the United States. Nearby Davidson River Outfitters has many excellent personnel to help with questions about fishing in the area. The Mills River is also nearby and it, too, offers excellent fishing in crystal clear streams and hiking. || ||The Pisgah National Forest is minutes away and abounds with activities. Families will enjoy sliding down Sliding Rock, feeling the spray from the waterfall at Looking Glass Falls, hiking to John’s Rock and visiting the fish hatchery, all a short drive from the Resort. Nearby Transylvania County boasts over 250 waterfalls!|||| Of course, the Resort has its own beautiful golf course with a swimming pool, ping pong table and tennis courts. The cottages at the Resort are spacious and can accommodate a large group. Each cottage has an outdoor grill and fire pit. All rooms and cottages have a great view the beautiful golf course. The middle course has trees/shrubs that actually bear small oranges! And white squirrels are plentiful throughout the Resort.||||We saw spectacular sunrises in the morning and the sunsets in the mountains beyond the golf course were unforgettable.||||For those wanting to explore dining options, there are many great places to eat near the Resort. We enjoyed dining at El Bronco’s (excellent Mexican), Brevard Diner as well as Tooley’s (great sandwiches made with much love) and Dixie Diner (delicious breakfasts) both in nearby Laurel Park. The Bar-B-Que at Hawg Wild in Pisgah Forest is outstanding. You will not leave Fuji Yama’s in Brevard hungry. MacFarland’s Bakery in Hendersonville is always a special treat! Quotations in Brevard is another favorite spot. Dads will enjoy the many local breweries. Oskar Blues, Sierra Nevada and many others are a short drive -- and all have taprooms, some with beautiful mountain settings!||||The best thing about the Resort, however, is the staff. Tim Connelly does an outstanding job! The members of his staff, Ben, Katie, and Lauren, are also excellent! Each made our stay very pleasant and enjoyable; they were extremely responsive to our needs. Ray, the facilities manager, also did an excellent job helping us with any need we had, even after hours.||||It is rare to find a Resort that is family friendly, pet friendly and a great value with excellent service.||||We have relocated to the area and plan to be back at Etowah many times...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to play at the Etowah Valley Golf Course and had a somewhat disappointing experience. The course has three 9-hole courses, we played the North/South combo. Unfortunately the courses, especially the North Course, had drawbacks that significantly impacted the overall enjoyment of the game.
Starting with the North Course, one minor grievance was the kitchen was closed at the turn, which happened around 5pm. This was quite inconvenient for players who wanted to grab a quick bite to eat during their round. Although the bar was open, the lack of basic hot dogs was disappointing.
Another issue on the North Course was the inconsistency between the pin positions and the GPS system in the cart. It was frustrating to rely on the GPS for accurate distances and then find out that the pin was in a different location. Additionally, it was evident that the pins had recently been moved, but the old holes had not been filled, which created an unappealing and inconsistent putting surface.
Furthermore, the bunkers on the North Course were in extremely poor condition. They had not been raked, and there was noticeable growth, ranging from minor to major, which detracted from the overall aesthetic appeal. Additionally, there were major drainage problems, making it challenging or impossible to play out of the bunkers effectively.
On the South Course, one of the main issues was that it was designated as "Cart Path Only." While this is sometimes necessary for maintenance purposes, it significantly affects the pace of play and limits the overall experience of navigating the course freely.
Moreover, there was a technical issue with the cart locking itself on the cart path when the GPS mistakenly believed that we had entered the fairway. This unexpected occurrence disrupted the flow of the game and created unnecessary inconvenience.
On a positive note, the greens on both courses were well maintained and in nice shape. Taking everything into consideration, I have mixed feelings about the Etowah Valley Golf Course. While the greens were in good condition, no food, unfilled pins and pin position mismatch, bunker maintenance, drainage problems, cart restrictions, and technical glitches dampened the overall experience. At a price point of $47, I would hesitate to play this course again unless significant improvements are made to address the...
Read moreThe golf course itself was nice, but the staff was completely unhelpful at best and down right jerks at worst. They apparently closed the the pro shop the night before early so when I called for a tee time I got just a ringing phone and no voicemail. After receiving no answer for hours I called the hotel and was told there were no event scheduled for tomorrow (a random Wednesday in June), and I should have no problem getting a tee time the next day. I arrived the next day, and I encountered a surly Chris in the pro shop who made it clear that he was going way out of his way to let me pay to only golf 9 when I wanted a full round. He then gave me a cart (with garbage from the previous user in it), and sent me on my way. Despite the fact I told him I'd never golfed that course before he gave me incorrect directions, and failed to inform me I needed to check in with a starter or where that starter might be. It's a small, casual course where one would not assume there would be a starter. From there the course was nice, but there was just random maintenance staff everywhere. On at least two holes I had to wait for staff to finish they're conversation in the middle of the green to tee off. On the 2nd hole some guy was mowing around the green, and he gave zero consideration to the fact that I was trying to pitch and putt. On hole 4 two maintenance guys just stood in the middle of the fairway talking and never moved. I was ultimately forced to just hit my second shot over them. I brought my concerns up to Chris in the pro shop, and I got nothing. I also left my phone number for the course management, and I never got a call back. Do yourself a favor and try another course. These guys care nothing for anyone who is not a member/resident there, and the course is really not any better than the Asheville...
