This is the first time I have ever had a negative comment about a restaurant, but I feel like this needs to be said. Our party of three went to Flat Rock Wood Room in Hendersonville, NC yesterday for lunch. This was our second time here and our last!! My husband ordered the bbq platter which he said was good. My mother ordered the beef brisket sandwich which was dry and she asked for a piece of cornbread which was a tiny end piece and was charged $2.50 for this 2x2 piece. I ordered the Flat Rock Salad which described on their site as loaded with fresh berries, grilled pineapple, walnuts, spring mix greens with apple vinaigrette dressing. The picture on their site also showed this topped with lots of everything and looked delicious. What I received was a platter which was 98% romaine, topped with a tiny amount of canned pineapple tidbits(not grilled), couple sliced strawberries and blueberries and no walnuts $13.99.I asked the server if I could have some walnuts which she did bring. I also mentioned to her that it wasn’t much on this salad, mainly lettuce. She took my salad and manager comes storming out! He said proportions were right. I mentioned that he needed to change description of salad. I told him I felt like a rabbit because mostly lettuce and hardly anything else. He turned around and left. He was very Rude!! He never apologized or asked how to make it right. When server brought our bill, we were having a conversation with her and then another manager comes storming out and he said, “Are you still talking about feeling like a squirrel or rabbit? What’s wrong with it?”My husband replied, “it’s mostly lettuce.”Manager said, “PAY YOUR BILL AND LEAVE!” He turned around and left. He was also very RUDE! We have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant! After we paid, I could see manager standing at window, motioning for server to get in there! We really felt sorry for our server! No one needs to be treated like this! If he treats customers like this, I can imagine how he treats his employees!! Both managers were very rude!!! If I had read previous reviews about how the managers were rude to customers here, we would have gone somewhere else! Hopefully, word will get around. I don’t know how he stays in business if he treats people like this! What goes around, comes around! MY FACEBOOK REVIEW...
Read moreFirst of all, we had a bit of an issue with our pretzel appetizer but once I was able to get someones attention (not our waitress but the young man who brought the food out), he went and got the owner and he came straight over followed by our waitress and he took the app away immediately and he took it off the bill of course. The only thing that irritated me a bit was there was not an apology from him directly but the waitress did apologize multiple times.
Now on to our entrees, I got the piggy mac skillet and fries, it was so so good, kind of smallish portions but it was enough to fill me up, we ate a late lunch. I actually had to bring some back to the hotel with me because it was still too hot to eat and my 5 year old was falling asleep at the table so we had to leave to get her to bed. The mac, pork, and sauce was delicious. The corn bread! I wish I could get their recipe for it! If you don't like sweet, moist cornbread, you won't like it. Just typing about it makes me crave some more. The fries were the seasoned, battered type fries and fried perfectly crispy.
My husband got the brisket platter, with mac and potato salad. Again, the portions were a bit small for the price, he ate all of his potato salad and meat but left about half the mac because he didn't like it. I tasted it because like I said, mine was great, but his cheese sauce tasted a different than mine, idk if it was because mine was in the skillet with the pork and BBQ or what but there was a definite taste difference. I tasted the brisket and it was not the worse I've had but also not the best I've had.
Our waitress was really nice, she didn't let our glasses go empty but she must have been busy because it was 1½ish hours until closing and when I needed her for the pretzel, a togo box, to pay the check, etc, it was hard to "find" herwhich was a bit irritating but I understood since it was close to closing.
I kind of wish the owner was a touch nicer about the pretzel situation, and maybe smile a little but he may have had a bad day/week and that's OK! Everyone has bad days.
Overall, I would come back just for that cornbread y'all, not even joking! Lol. I think on the way out of town, I may talk hubby into stopping and get an order of just that as a road snack it was...
Read moreThis was our first visit. We've lived in the area for nearly 4 years and were looking for something new to add to our list of regular choices. We had a group of 6. We order 2 appetizers, 4 pizzas, pulled pork platter and brisket burnt ends platter.
The Good: The pizzas were thin, crispy and generally what we expected from a wood-fire. The pulled pork was good. The onion straws were above average as an appetizer. Corn bread was moist, sweet and very good. Mac and cheese side was on par as well.
The Meh: The burnt ends brisket were not burnt ends. I was served cubed brisket is some sort of sauce. It was not good. The brisket itself was very good. I'd order the brisket platter if I had the fortune of a do-over.
The 👎: Service was underwhelming, slow and mostly unattentive. 2 appitizers were served to a group of 6 with no plates. This caused everyone reaching and grabbing over each other. Holding the extra bites of the food in your hands and left the table a mess with crumbs and our hands covered in oil. The main dishes arrived at different times... very different times.
There was a man who seemed to be of a more senior position who actually stepped to assist the server. There were a couple of different opportunities he had to address the situation with a group of patrons who were obviously not having an optimum experience and did not take the extra moment, disappointing.
I received the bill, paid and the server stood watching me as I tipped and signed, kinda uncomfortably close.
In the end, we had 2 apps, 4 pizzas, 2 bbq platters and waters. $146.00 not including the tip (which put us ~ $170.00).
I certainly have experienced worse. We were looking for an addition to our regular rotation and I am not sure we found it, here. There was absolutely no "WoW" in the experience and struggle to see the proposition of value met.
Will we...
