Louie's P&R — Restaurant in Herrin

Such a cozy and cool place!!! Very nice, attentive, and knowledgeable staff!!! Tons of deli meat, cheeses, and goodies. My husband got some brats, Italian sausage, and their own, "Salameat." It's their own blend of salami/sausage. If you are near there or want to take a little road trip, I suggest to get a few of their hand packed 'specialized to your liking' baskets for Christmas! I grew up on salameat made by the original Louie P&R in the early 1970s. Recently I had a chance to visit Herrin, so I went to Louie P&R to get salameat. Not only did the clerk get my order wrong and overcharged me for the sausage, but the salameat itself was pitifully thin and pale and about half the size of the original. I ordered a meat tray and asked not to have salami on it that we all had bad stomachs. I asked for roast beef in it's place but when we got the 2 trays both had salami and not one slice of roast beef on either one and it was loaded with pepper cheese.
