Tooky Mills Pub — Restaurant in Hillsborough

I love Tooky's food, and often times I wish they would do more takeout so I could have avoided the following situation. I went to dine in on a Tuesday around 3:30 pm with my daughter. The server (Courtney) was brief, and literally walked away while I was attempting to tell her we would like to put in an appetizer to start. My daughter ordered a kids meal, which says it includes a kids drink but is apparently a lie because the server charged me for an adult sized drink. Our server seemed more concerned with her other tables and couldn't truly be bothered by us.

We wrapped up with dessert, and she dropped the check which I paid with cash. After putting the correct amount of cash in the bill fold, we left. As we're just getting to the car, Courtney comes RUNNING out. (The most interested she had been in us THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE) "Ma'am! You didn't pay your bill fully! I have..." then she proceeded to count the cash and realized SHE CAN'T COUNT. Nor am I sure she even attempted to before chasing us out, completely embarrassing me. As a fellow server and bartender myself, this is totally unacceptable. I always verify the amount of cash, which I've never had a problem with in 13 years of working in the restaurant setting.

I don't think we will be back for dine in for a very long time, if ever. Which is very unfortunate because I love Tooky's. But if I have to deal with that level of embarrassment again,...

First timer here at Tooky Mills Pub! I dined mid-day just after lunch rush was over. The place was empty with only 2 souls at the bar. When I walked in, I was greeted by the bartender who placed me at a table in the next room. Brenda came right out and gave me some water and took my food request. I ordered the baked haddock with mashed potatoes and a ceasar Salad. My food all came out at once, which was kinda strange, as salad would typically come first. Regardless, the food was absolutely amazing and I couldn't get enough of it! The taste in their food was heavenly. That melt in your mouth breaded baked haddock was so good that im still thinking about it. Their potatoes were so rich and creamy that paired perfectly with their flavourful brown gravy. Their ceasar dressing is thick and creamy that sticks to every piece of green. 10 out of 10 for flavor and freshness. Overall, I thought the service was okay. They felt more like a bar type atmosphere and I didnt really get the super friendly server / guest experience I would typically get at most small sit down restaurants. I’ve been twice with friends and both times the food and drinks were delicious and the service friendly. A lot of care has gone into the establishment and the general vibe of the place is welcoming.

Giving four stars as each time the wait between food was excessive and the second time, it was over an hour before our entrees were served. The wait time was not communicated to us to be long either time, instead our waitress just sort of started avoiding our table.

I don’t really blame them, when we did flag them to ask how long until our food would arrive after 40 minutes, they apologized and said shortly. It was frustrating to watch other tables be sat, served, and prepare to leave while still waiting for our mains however we did order ribs and fish and chips and other tables seemed to go for burgers etc. This was a similar order both times I went.

Please inform your customers if certain items on the menu take longer to cook. Being more straightforward about this on the menu or when ordering would make the whole...
