If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. It's so disappointing too because my family has been coming here for years, and I mean years, since I was 15 (I'm now 29). Recently they had a change in staff to the restaurant portion, that happens, and is expected but what I don't expect is that for 20 min they shut down the restaurant. I completely and fully understand that the staff need lunch, I do work so I know everyone needs to take breaks. What I cannot fathom, though, is why they ALL need to take lunch at the exact same time?? AND why it's not at a consistent time?? I could understand if at 2:30pm everyday the kitchen staff takes a 20 min lunch but this is not the case for these bright human beings. My family and I have gone in a minimum of 3 times during 1:15pm-3:30pm to get lunch when they've taken their 20 min lunch break. And honestly, it wouldn't bother me so much if they weren't so damn rude. Seriously. By far the most rude, angry people on the face of the earth. You are lucky if you get acknowledged. What really ticked me off was that we were looking at the menu, planning to just walk around for a little bit when one of the old hags 'shoo-ed' me with her hand. She shoo-ed me like I was a stray dog. I hadn't said a word, I was just looking at the menu. I cannot even begin to tell you how irate I was. I used to love going there with my mom, it was always a culture trip but ever since their new staff in the kitchen came, I have hated everything about that place. If the food wasn't good, and it wasn't within 5 miles of my house, I would surely never come back. My advice: take lunch breaks on different shifts OR take a 20 min break at the same time everyday (consistency) and NOT during lunch hours 11:30-2:00pm. Could you imagine if someone drove an hour plus to come eat lunch and the rude kitchen staff were just sitting down to take their 20 min lunch, they don't acknowledge you or better yet, they shun you? Well imagine it because at the same time that we were there, a lady had drove from north of St Cloud to come eat lunch. What a shame for a business to treat people like their time and money mean nothing. I have had this happen to us numerous times but the most recent had me boiling to the point that I needed to write a review. I will continue to find ways to let people know how the service is at this place. Seriously Dong Yang, shame on you. Perhaps some day you will have...
Read moreAVOID AT ALL COSTS. There's a new a$$hole working there. He's a slender Korean man that's not very pleasant to be around. We went on a Sunday evening, and the website says it closes at 6pm. We got to the deli at 4:55pm and the a$$hole asked if we were dining in, and we said yes. He said, "Deli closes at 5:20." We got our food five minutes later and had 20 minutes to scarf it down. My husband did not enjoy his food at all because this a$$hole was so rude the whole time we were eating. We did not finish our food and had to pack it to-go. We had to finish eating at home. The plating was extremely cheap. Our food was served on one-half of plastic to-go containers and we had to use disposable eating utensils, so you don't get the full Korean experience eating with chopsticks and a rice bowl. The more customers that kept coming in, the more flustered this a$$hole got and you could hear him grunting out of anger behind the counter. He would bark at customers then try to play it off with a nervous laugh. I am sure he is fully capable of speaking fluent English because I heard him a few times, but he would mix Korean with English and his words started to slur. I don't even know what language he was speaking anymore. So after packing our food, I decided to do a little shopping since they "close" at 6pm, right? Wrong. The a$$hole returns and is now policing the front entrance!! He turns away incoming customers and locks the door right after I leave at 5:30pm!! We drove home in disbelief because we had just experienced the worst customer service of our lives. As long as this a$$hole is working there, we will not be returning. This place is going...
Read moreBefore Yelp, I kept (and still keep) a list of all food joints to try. This place has been on my list for at least 3 years! Could be more, as at one point I lost all names on my list and had to start over. I need to get something of my chest: I am sorry for not having stopped here sooner. I will take advantage of the shop, but the food, good golly miss molly the food! I had not had a meal that good in weeks!
I should have written down the name of the dish I received, but for the life of me I cannot discern which it was. I believe it was Bulgogi (marinated beef). The flavors danced like a ballerina on my pallet, with the spiciness performing some break-dancing on the side. More clearly, the food was amazing! Prices for the portion sizes were phenomenal, and everything is made fresh in the scratch kitchen.
It is a serve-yourself establishment, so once the order is placed, all worry about drink refills, napkins, and to go boxes are your responsibility. I was frustrated at first, but realized the repetition of refilling my water cup kept me from passing out from the itis.
Ah the itis, my old friend. As stated at the beginning of my review, this place has been on my radar for years. I am so rarely in the area I had never had the opportunity to stop by. Until one day, opportunity came a knocking. I planned on seeing a movie down the street and found Dong Yang to be near enough. I stopped in before the movie, had my foodie experience, and realized my pal, good ole itis, wanted to hang. I then decided to skip the movie and turn in early for the evening, like an old retiree. The food was so good it put me to sleep!
Stop in,...
