The Salty Dog Ice Cream Shop — Restaurant in Hilton Head Island

We arrived on a Monday night around 8:30, and this place was relatively crowded. The staff was nice while we were being served. The seating was a seat-yourself situation, with plenty of tables and chairs, as well as picnic tables, to choose from (outside area).

Ice cream selections included all of the classics with a good variety of toppings. There was at least one non-dairy flavor that I enjoyed (cookies and cream made with goat milk). And my husband had a delicious root beer float.

We could hear the live music from the restaurant next to the ice cream shop and enjoyed listening while we ate our treat.

Thing to note - one teenage girl in front of us in line said she has a peanut allergy and opted not to buy anything. I’m not entirely sure of her conversation with the staff, but if you have a peanut allergy (or any allergy), it may be worth talking through your options with the staff as well. 9/2012Stopped at HHI on our way back from FL to PA. I first learned of the SD from the SC webcams a few years ago and always wanted to visit. First visit was 3 years ago in late Nov. The outside bar has heaters which was nice as it was a bit chilly. Just went for drinks after dinner at The Black Marlin. Beautiful view, waved at the webcam. Good service from bartender. The ice cream base is homemade which is great because it is soy free. We had soy allergies in our family. We often make ice cream at home and this place tastes just like what we make which is awesome. It is a place we now know we can go while we are out and about and do not have to worry about allergies.
