Johnson's Fish & Shrimp — Restaurant in Hobart Township

This place is a gem that is easy to miss, but great to find. I drove by this place everyday for the longest time and didn't know they were they were there. I discovered them doing a search for seafood in my area, and I'm glad I did! Generally fried food doesn't travel well, so with it being carry out only I was a little apprehensive about ordering from there. That being said, it's a few miles from my house and the food still was fresh and delicious when I returned home. I ordered the Shrimp, Cod, and Tilapia and they were all done to perfection. The only reason for 4 vs 5 stars is their Hush puppies were not great to say the least. I'm not sure if they are frozen or made fresh, but the flavor is good. They are more the size of a ping-pong ball than a golf ball, which means that they fry up a little harder than I prefer. There's not much of the soft, tasty, bread left in the middle as it's mostly fried to a crisp. If that's your preference, you may love them. It's also not a deal breaker, because the food all had fantastic flavor, but I also wish they offered some that amazing lemon pepper some of the other places offer. The mild sauce was great, sweet but not too sweet. The tarter sauce was wonderful with just a hint of a dill aftertaste. I'll definitely order from there again! If I could leave negative stars I would. I called to place an order and was placed on hold. After 10 minutes of being on hold I hung up and called back and all I got was dial tone. So I went to the restaurant to order. There was no cars parked and no one inside ordering. When I got inside all of the employees were “taking a break”. One was sitting down on his phone sitting on the customer chairs. The other two employees were just twiddling their thumbs. When I come to order I mention that I tried to call in but kept getting the dial tone and was placed on hold but they paid me no mind. They just proceeded to take my order. After asking about the menu options I noticed that the menu in the store was different than online so I inquired about it. They offered no explanation except “it isn’t like that anymore.” And they were out of some of the menu options that was on the “current” menu. The customer service was horrible at best. No professionalism whatsoever. I didn’t even order because I was so disgusted. And when observing their attire it was dirty and looked like they had cooked in them a week ago and it...

*UPDATED New ownership now. Food was great! Customer service not so well. Ordered food . picked up. In the process of picking up all of the employees were upfront chatting. I was not greeted by any employees but a guest greeted me. And then the owner rang me out. At no point did they say they were out if coleslaw. Get home No coleslaw. (Mac salad sub) I called just to let them know the issue. Thats it. The lady proceeds to tell me "Oh, we been out of cs." Like why wouldn't you say that when I ordered or even picked up food? Long pause .. And then I get an apology.. (Not a fan of their Mac salad AT ALL) I would have taken a fruit cup instead. Fr Come on I support all local/family businesses. Show some love/appreciation for your customers. Smh.

My first experience was great. Chicken was great!! This time the chicken was VERY SMALL. Ordered a half chicken dinner, and the sides were bigger than the chicken pieces. The chicken was over cooked. Way to crunchy. Flavor was good. But that is it! I'm disappointed I spent my money here....
