A few days ago we were changing bus drivers in Hayti on a school trip and decided to walk across the road to try Home Pete for lunch. We told the friendly folks who greeted us that we had an hour for lunch and they said they would make sure we were not late for the bus. Being St. Patrick’s Day, the special was corn beef and cabbage, so we gave it a try. Everything was delicious and our server was so friendly. She asked a lot of questions about where we were going and showed genuine interest. Some of our students sat at another table and also said they had a great experience. On our way home today, we changed drivers at the same spot in Hayti so we decided to go back to the Home Plate, with more folks from our bus coming this time since we enjoyed it so much the first time. This time I had the open-face roast beef, which was a very generous portion and was prepared excellently. The servers who were there the previous time remembered us and asked how our trip to New Orleans went. They were happy to see us again, like going to visit an old friend, whom we had just met a few days earlier! The front-of-house manager was especially warm to our folks - she went right over to the table of students who had come the first time and asked her “bus babies” how they enjoyed the trip. Thefirst-timers in our group also loved the place and enjoyed their food - everyone had something different and it was all great! If we ever come this way again, we will be sure to stop at the Home Plate and recommend it to everyone...
Read moreJust ate here for the first time and boy was it an experience. Pulled up and one waitress was outside on the pgone on her break and she was so nice. We went inside and another girl waited on us. I ordered a hamburger steak and she told me it comes with mashed potatoes and green beans only. I told her that was fine. My husband ordered the 4 piece hungry man chicken plate. We also ordered fried green beans for an appetizer. 15 minutes later she told us they were out of fried green beans which was fine but when I asked do they have heinz 57 she said nope all rude like. Well when our meal arrived my hamburger steak was so dry bland. We continued to eat only to find out that the other table where there was 4 people and a baby was the young waitresses and she knew them so while the other waitress was outside on her break she swapped that table for ours thinking we would tip her with her attitude. And our young waitress told the other one in front of us that she swapped her big table bc she knew them and knew they wouldn't tip so she decided to take us thinking we would. Then decided to call the other table the big stiffers. This is all said with us there and another table had also come in. Not good customer service. To the older waitress you were lovely and had exceptional...
Read moreThis place is awesome. All of The staff is very friendly, especially the daytime ladies, all of the cooks do an amazing job on the chicken strips, mashed potatoes, brown/white gravy, mac/cheese, and the homemade specials they have everyday. My personal favorite foods are the homemade specials of the day, which are the meatloaf, the chicken spaghetti, the ball park bowl (mashed potatoes, chicken strips, brown gravy, adn corn all mixed together) and the chicken wraps. The sweet tea is always amazing, and the cheesecakes/cakes are amazing. They also made milkshakes one day and those were amazing as well. I don't care if the other customers say that the cooks do a horrible job, or the waitstaff is rude (yes I know a couple of customers that have been in there, while Ive been in there, know neither of those were the case), because those Karen's (or their male equivalents) clearly need to go take a chill pill, or have something to calm down (I can name a few things, but they wouldn't be appropriate here. Lol.) So glad this place exists. The staff is never paid enough for the service they provide. Just saying. 💯🙂😁 If I could give 6 out of 5 stars, I would to be...
