I really hate to have to write this review, but my experience here was so disappointing I feel like I need to share. I love to support local coffee places and have been wanting to try Frothy Monkey since they opened their first location. My partner and I decided to try the Homewood location since it was closer to us. When we walked in, the hostess didn’t seem too thrilled to have to speak to or seat us. It wasn’t that busy at the time, but I shrugged it off because I understand that sometimes you catch people at a bad time and it’s not representative of them normally. When she initially sat us at a four top, I asked if we could be moved to a smaller table. I could tell this irritated the hostess, but this time I chalked it up to maybe being a little frustrated at having to move around her plan for tables. Again, I figured that maybe she was just having a bad day and didn’t think too much about it. When our waitress got to us, her demeanor was also quite standoffish. She didn’t really greet us and overall had a vibe that said “I don’t want to be here.” She brought us our drinks and that was the last we saw of her. It took a while for someone to come take our order, and it was the hostess who sat us initially. She came to our table and asked if we had ordered yet to which I responded that we hadn’t and she said “Did you want to?” ????? Yes? So she put our orders in and there was a small mix up with my side of bread. I told the gentleman who brought out our food to us and he was able to fix that for us no problem. The food itself was good, but on the pricier side. The whole time we were eating, no one came to check up on how we were doing. I’m not a needy customer, so I wasn’t that upset, but as time went on (around the time in a meal you’d expect someone to come see if you want the check), there was still no one there. I could see plenty of other members of staff sitting and chatting and I saw our waitress on what I assumed to be her break. That’s completely fine, but we were sitting at the table with empty cups and plates for at least 30 minutes waiting for anyone to come give us the bill. There was no one walking around that I could flag down, so my partner had to get up and go to the unattended register just to get some help. Eventually young lady approached him said “Oh sorry, I thought someone had already given you the bill.” The total was also astronomically high for what we ordered- 2 normal brunch entrees and three coffees should not equal to $55. At this point, we just wanted to leave so we paid and got out.
This visit was so disappointing especially after I had heard such good things about Frothy Monkey and had been wanting to try it for over a year. I expect a little more from smaller, local businesses and my expectations...
Read moreWe have been to the location downtown, which is usually a decent time here and there. The food is always good at that location, but the service is somewhat shotty. It just depends on the day & time. So when we discovered that frothy monkey had made a new location in Homewood, we decided to check it out to see if we would get an even better experience than the one that we receive downtown. To say the least, we were disappointed. We ordered the French toast, which describes having apples and cinnamon, and usually an order of French toast is 2 pieces of bread, cut in half, giving you four pieces of French toast for an order. This was one piece of French toast, 2 pieces, for $14. That is absurd and honestly unheard of. I dont know if that was a kitchen mistake...but even still, the server should have caught it at expo and had it fixed with another piece of french toast & the right garnish of apples and cinnamon like the description states. Also, if this was the mistake on behalf of kitchen staff, this should've been caught by our server....which brings me to my next point. Our server was kind and attentive up until taking our order, getting us what we needed, and then being in a rush to leave the entire time. This is the same experience that we have had at the downtown location where our server was in a rush to leave so they got our order, put in in, no follow ups whatsoever, just to be able to clock out & leave quickly. I totally understand wanting to leave for the day after being at work for the majority of it, but at least check in with your table to make sure they need more water or anything else. My partner ordered the hash, in which the first time they forgot one of the key ingredients of sausage. They remade the order, but the next time around, it was a different portion with less kale and a prominent amount of sausage. Yes, this is a thorough review, but it's necessary because I, too, am in the industry and the decline of service and staff double-checking things and catching the simple mistakes is just getting out of hand. I was going to even leave a decent tip for our waitress...but she was in such a rush to leave, snd walked right past us to do just thay with purse in hand, that it felt pointless to leave the amount I was going to, so I retracted a potion of it because when it came down to the food, we weren't impressed. I was tipping solely because our server and the manager who checked on us were kind to us. Either way, we will most likely not be back. And I'm sure you all could care less, but I had to leave this review so the mistakes can be hopefully be fixed by the staff, & hopefully remedied for customers the next time around so they don't have to have the same...
Read moreFirst off we have always loved frothy monkey and their food has been great. Our experience this last time was awful! We go sat outside which was lovely and immediately ordered because we were starving. My boyfriend requested his dressing to be on the side. We waited 30 mins and his food arrived and mine didn’t. The sauce covered everything and on sourdough bread with balsamic for the salad was absorbed in it and made it soggy. I went in because he was having a hard time with it and asked for another plate. My food came out 10 mins later after they asked if I was still waiting on anything. My food was great. Our server just dropped the food off and didn’t say a word or apologize for the long wait and for the dressing being covered on my boyfriend’s food. Later on we got a new server who was extremely kind named Gabby. She listened to my boyfriend when he was upset with his food and apologized for the wait and mistakes made by our previous server Kiya. We would have loved to tip Gabby for her positive attitude and nice demeanor but saw Kiya’s name on the check at the end (which she never even gave her name at the beginning) and chose she did not deserve a tip at all. Hope Gabby gets a shoutout or reaches a new level in the business because she was friendly and...
