They’re not kidding. The fish is very fresh and the poke appears freshly made throughout the day. My husband is a bit particular about the fishy smell with some poke but did not feel Poke by the Pound smelled fishy at all.
On our first try, we each got the poke bowl with 2 options so we were able to try the tako, limu, and spicy ahi. We also had a side of the ahi belly. The second time we bought a shoyu poke bowl, and got garlic and spicy ahi by the pound.
I love poke and have it every day when in Hawaii. I feel their fish and poke is much more fresh than others I have tried on the island. Flavors are a great balance (for each poke we tried)-not heavy and not overwhelming, which is quite satisfying.
I felt their poke is good the way it’s made, but there are shakers with furikake, sea salt, and red chili peppers (?) by the register to add if desired. They also sell gingah spread, which I will try next time.
We were both also pretty impressed with the ahi belly. Great flavor and buttery belly (not a heavy buttery feel). Meat not overcooked and still tender. I’m usually dissatisfied with cooked fish but I really enjoyed the ahi belly and will definitely have this again.
I felt the price was appropriate for the quality and freshness.
We came here twice (once around 11:30a and another day around 3:30p) and found parking (free) in the attached parking lot immediately. Establishment was clean. Service was quick and friendly. Downside is that my standard for good poke is now higher.
I’ll be recommending this to my friends and also...
Read moreI work nearby and go here often. I will likely never go back again as prices are getting so high with their poke bowls and their portions are so low, you might as well look elsewhere. Pre pandemic, this place was amazing. They packed that poke bowl with poke to the brim just bursting with fresh poke all for a reasonable price. Now they only give a few pieces of your two choices with a huge bowl of rice. I get inflation and rising costs but don’t raise prices to nearly $20 with vastly smaller portions and expect customers to come back. It feels like I’ve been cheated out for the two years I’ve been going to this place. How about keeping prices high but also give bigger portions? Or keep prices lower and...
Read moreThis afternoon my brother and I stopped in for the first time to try this place out. There were 2 people in there sitting near the window and to counter helps. Through the window my brother waved at a girl and indicated with his fingers of we could come in. The girl did not acknowledge him but gave him a blank look. He did this 2 more times before I opened the door and had him go in to ask instead. The encounter with second counter help did not go any better as she had a nice smile to give us but again with the same unhelpful attitude. At that point I just told my brother let's go as their customer service skills were lacking. We then gave our business to Joe's Grill by...
