This restaurant was absolutely the worst restaurant in the state of Louisiana. This restaurant gives "seafood" a bad name and how it is open baffled me the whole time I was there. I'm from New Orleans, so I have had my fair share of good and bad seafood restaurants. Big Al's surely takes the pot on the worst I've ever been too, really the worst restaurant I've ever been to and I've eaten at some bad Asian places on the Westbank. You couldn't pay me to eat there again. The food is extremely over priced. By extremely, I'm talking about one small red small potatoe and a half, 2.00 dollars, 1 corn is a dollar, and a half of link is 2 dollars. Crawfish, they want your first born child and the oyster poboy, they want your mother's kidneys. Food absolutely does not match the price which I wouldn't mind spending the money for good or at least decent food. Crawfish was way way way over cooked. I never knew what over cooked crawfish looked like until this place, only in myths. Roast beef poboy tasted like dog food, no really it did. I wouldn't feed my dog that, seriously. Can't believe this place is in Houma or near the John Folse Insituite of Culinarily Arts which is suppose to be top in its class. This place should be on the Westbank, but I know it wouldn't make it there and that's terrible! Besides the food the service was great and settling was nice but dungeon like. Our waitress totally acomendated us for the terrible food when she didn't have. I got the hint she agreed with our concerns about how bad the food was. I don't see how this place has great, good, or decent reviews. We all need to be smoking on that peace pipe bc they have to be so high they can...
Read moreMy ships crew and I had a hankering for some Cajun food and Big Al’s came recommended to us. So we to the 45 minute trip to Houma.
I’ll try to keep this concise, but I must say we were all mostly happy with the exception of a few things. The appetizers were good enough. We ordered turtle soup, crab bisque, alligator bites and calamari. I heard the soup and bisque were pretty good and I had no problem with the fried appetizers for the most part besides the breading was a bit over seasoned.
My biggest problem was the grilled shrimp salad I ordered. The shrimp that came out looked like bait shrimp by size and were not grilled - they were so small that it would have been impossible. The lettuce was iceberg and that was about all that was on the plate. But in all fairness I did order a salad in a Cajun joint. My friend was disappointed with the catfish and shrimp, and he too has shrimp that were really small. Come on folks, were in Southern Louisiana, don’t cheat us with those itty bitty shrimp!!
I will say Al’s switched my plate to something else, in which I ordered a soft shell crab sandwich, and it was a big ol’ crab that tased great. Their service was accommodating and our iced tea glasses were always full. My other friends tuna steak was a good size and cook slightly over medium, and he left nothing on that plate. Overall the meal turned out ok and we all left with...

She told us no saying they were understaffed. I was extremely unhappy so I went back to the manager to file a complaint because I'm like this is not our fault it's your staff for not writing our reservation down so what I'm suppose to do tell some of my family they have to go because yall didnt reserve our spot. So with an attitude she brought us to party room and long story short we wasnt served properly when we finally got to b seated and they automatically charged us a tip we will not b coming here again I feel they didnt deserve a tip . Tips are rewards for excellent service and we didnt get nowhere close to that we pretty much had to serve ourselves and the food was very...
