This is quite possibly one of the best Vietnamese hole in the wall places you'll ever eat at.
I saw a few photos of some potential dishes and knew exactly what I wanted to order. I was mostly sold on the banh khot dish and bot chien. Everything else, I wanted to be a surprise.
Bun Rieu there was so much depth of flavor in the broth. the noodles were nice and chewy with a bite. the tofu was soaked in broth and bursting with umami flavor. the tomatoes had a balance of soggy to firm ratio. and lastly the shrimp meatball was delectable
Banh Bot Chien quite the take on fried egg and fried rice/tapioca cake. the crispiness of the fried banh bot chien was possibly one of the best fried goodness that has landed in my mouth. dip it in the sauce they provide and its pure goodness. the fried egg is on top and not cracked and cooked in between.
Banh Khot ah the BEST dish of the visit. the crunch to soft ratio, plus every bite I took just put my soul into heaven. I didn't want it to end, even when my stomach was coming to it's fullness. The dish took a bit of time to come out and it was well worth the wait. I couldn't stop smiling of how good this dish was. I even posted it on instagram and received so many responses of where to find it. I wasn't going to gatekeep, cause I want my friends to know where to find this gem.
Salted Kumquat I feel as though this is an acquired taste. If you didn't grow up drinking this, then it might not be for you. But for me, it was delicious! Just wait for the ice to dilute a little bit and it's perfection.
No one speaks an ounce of English, and that's when you know this place is legit. Authentic. Quite possible one of the best Vietnamese hole in the wall. It's enough for me to bring my mom here to not...
Read moreThis place has a lot in their menu. I tried so far bún mắm, bún bò Huế, bún riêu, hột vịt lộn sốt me. I like bún mắm the best. The broth was about right (but it would get saltier if you eat late in the evening). The toppings were good but their crunchy pork belly is quite fatty so if you are not a fat lover, please remember to make your special request. At the beginning they offered a lot of fresh veggies go with bún mắm but lately they only offered small portion. Some herbs weren’t fresh but they did not pick out the bad ones (or they missed). Their stuffed red peppers are spicy for me. They did not remove the seeds so if you aren’t the spicy eaters, please make sure to try a small bite before you ruined your appetite 😄. Their bún riêu and bún bò Huế were OK, nothing was stand out. Their hột vịt lộn sốt me had the white part in it which is very tough to chew. I wish they remove that part before serving. The crunchy toppings for hột vịt lộn sốt me looked very delicious however they did not taste fresh especially peanut. They should check the quality of the toppings before serving since those can easily ruin the dish. For the drinks: they offered simple drinks but they added too much ice. Remember to request less ice or you will finish your drink in a couple of sips. They severed drinks in Togo foam cup which is convenient but not so environmentally friendly and it would make the drink less appealing to the taste. Customer service is good. They used to have a very nice and polite lady (Huế girl) but I don’t see her lately. She provided the best customer service. This place is my go to place for bún mắm. I found it tasted pretty much like bún mắm Tân...
Read moreI’ve been to this place 2 times. The first time, the wait took 20 minutes for the first dish and the other 2 dishes we ordered were brought out 15 minutes after. We didn’t have much interactions with the servers since they only took our order and give us the food so my only complaint that day was the wait time. The 2nd time I came was yesterday, we were sat down and the server put the menu down and just left. No “take your time on ordering” or “is there any drink I can get for you”. My mom, who came with me had asked to order the Pha Lau first since she knew the wait time would be a while but when she looked up, the server was turning around. I saw the server roll her eyes before turning back around (since she was in front of me) and then that’s when the server asked what drink we wanted. This place is more like a “beg to be served” place. Nobody ever ask if everything is ok, tries to take away empty plates, or anything. They never come around asking anything but as soon as you’re about to leave, they want to come by and see how much of a tip you left. This is the first time my family and I have ever left a place...
