This is a long read, so buckle up and maybe grab a snack.
If you're craving that real Egyptian street vibe, El Helmya is the spot. This isn’t just a restaurant, it feels like you took a wrong turn and ended up on a side street in Cairo. The energy, the décor, the smell... bro, it hits. Full nostalgia mode. I genuinely felt like I was back home ( and I'm not even an Egyptian )
The people running it? Super warm and welcoming. It’s got that mom and pop place feel, and you can tell there’s love in every detail from the way they greet you to how they plate the food.
Now, let’s talk about the real reason you're here: the food.
Here’s what we ordered (and emotionally recovered from):
• Kebda Eskandrani (Beef Liver):
Straight-up fire. Tasted exactly like the street carts back home. The garlic, cumin, chili combo? Slapped hard. Paired with salad and tahini, chef’s kiss. I almost shed a tear.
• Mahshi Kromb (Stuffed cabbage rolls):
Took me back to Ramadan nights when the neighbor auntie would knock on the door with a hot plate. Soft, flavorful, and full of heart. Comfort food max level.
• Mombar (Rice stuffed sausages):
Presentation? Fancy. Flavor? Imbaba-certified. Crispy outside, soft and herby inside. I felt judged by my arteries, but I had zero regrets.
• Macarona Béchamel with Chicken Panee:
Listen... I’m officially declaring this the best chicken panee in Texas. The macarona layers were creamy and rich, and the chicken? Golden, juicy, well seasoned. I wasn’t ready for the emotional rollercoaster.
Dessert:
• Om Ali:
Warm, creamy, flaky, and rich. Every spoon felt like a hug. Honestly, if Om Ali was a real person, I’d be down on one knee asking Ali for her hand.
Drinks:
Tried the Arosa tea and the cold hibiscus (karkadeh) both hit different. Clean, classic, and exactly what you want after a meal like that.
Sometimes I finish a meal like this and just stare into the void, wondering what I’ve been doing with my life.
One thing’s for sure though, I’m coming back (or moving to Egypt idk) next time, I’m bringing...

Read moreTry Egyptian food here! Three of us came here to try Egyptian cuisine for the first time and felt like we got a true Egyptian experience with the beautiful blue and white decor to the music adding to the ambiance. It is a nice quaint place good for families, a date, or a single hungry person.
We ordered the mix grill, baked Egyptian rice, fave bean dip with flatbread, and a flatbread stuffed with spicy ground meat. The meal came with traditional rice as well. We drank hibiscus tea that was similar to Mexican Jamaica and a fresh mango drink that was not too thick, thin, or too sweet. The flatbread is so thin and good, and the fava bean dip has a hint of dried mint and other nice spices topped with fried onion crisps. The mix grill was seasoned and cooked perfectly and had chicken, beef, lamb, and kofta. It came with roasted onion, jalapeño, and tomatoes. The kofta was actually the best I have ever eaten. The flatbread stuffed with seasoned beef comes with fries and is a medium spice level.
The servers Adam and Ahmed were very friendly coming by to make sure we were set and that we liked the food. The owner stopped by to greet us and was so friendly, explaining some of the traditional dishes that we will be coming back to try next time we’re in the area.
It was so fun to find this on social media and we highly recommend you try Elhelmya Egyptian Restaurant especially if you have never had Egyptian cuisine and want to try something new and fun! The owner and staff are open to feedback and very...
