Learned of this restaurant via the Burger Friday column by food writer Alison Cook. We traveled 30 miles to a part of town that we infrequently visit, and it was well worth it. . Our service was great. The waitress didn't speak English and my Spanglish ain't great, but the only adverse impact was that I got full sugar Coke rather than Diet. The drink was huge too, but that rush of energy helped fight off the food coma on the drive home. 😄 . I had the Guadalajara Burger: Melted Monterey jack cheese, ham, bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado. Yes, it is a lot and the sandwich is huge. It was served with a side of fries. The burger was very tasty, nicely balanced between the salty ham plus bacon and the cheese & avocado. It was served piping hot, the cheese ooey and gooey. Loved it. . The fries are a sort that I personally love. They were hot, soft, and deeply cooked. They were greasy and not crunchy. I believe these are cooked this way intentionally: it is a style of French fry. However, I recognize that not everyone likes this style. These people need to dip the fries in the excellent green salsa, which is served with the chips. This is a Mexican restaurant, after all. . My wife's cheddar burger was entirely covered with cheese. I think it compares favorably with the similar burger at Chris Madrid's in San Antonio. However, being a hundred miles closer makes it better for me (it was also served in a tenth the time that it takes to get it at Chris Madrid's... overhyped much?). . Overall, I could see myself being a frequent customer were Taqueria Guadalajara closer....
Read moreI don't understand how they are getting so many good reviews. Only explanation I can gather is. It is their own people doing it. Because this place left me completely and utterly dissatisfied. I can recall paying 6.99 for a LG caldo and not 9.99... and the food does not come out fresh nor good. It is dry and looks as though it is warmed up in the microwave. I understand inflation and can grow with change but this is ridiculous. 3.00 dollars for a can of soda. And who charges for chips and salsa? I thought it was a restaurant courtesy. But not this place. They offer it and then they charge you for it. Unbelievable. My cousin ordered a caldo and a coffee and ended up paying 12.00 dollars. Almost 13.00 when most restaurants you would pay 9.00 dollars. So, no, they do not deserve five stars for a soup, tea, and chips...
Read moreWe were starved after a long meeting yesterday and looked up Mexican near us in South Houston, and man, this place was delicious! The salsa is authentic, the chips light and crispy. We had juicy fajitas and fresh guacamole. I would say it rivals any big fancy expensive chain..Pappawhatever, for a fraction of the price. This place is great, from its authentic Mexican decor to the pleasant service we received. I highly recommend you stop in for some great food. I’ll...
