Editor’s Note: Those who know me personally know that I review food harshly with an extreme level of scrutiny, and with little mercy for bad quality. I came here on a Monday night, I was tired and hungry, upon approaching The Shack it is noted that it is no fancy restaurant, it’s tiny and small, but it does have a patio for outdoors eating. It is a meeting ground for regulars who buy food from here regularly. Tonight I wanted to eat 2 things, a customer recommended, loaded Boudain and a common standard, the cheeseburger. First, The Loaded Boudain, things to take notice on is that The Loaded Boudain doesn’t have the best of presentations, but what it lacks in presentation it compensates for in flavor. This food was absolutely delicious from start to finish, the rice was moist and well seasoned, there was a delicate balance between each flavor and each one had its moment to shine in my mouth, it was a musical performance and the cook was an amazing director. Second, The Cheeseburger. The cheeseburger is not a difficult food to master, it’s the reason why the mascot for fast food is literally a cheeseburger, but learning how to make a perfect one takes a bit more time. If someone cooking a patty takes it out too early, it’s undercooked and can completely dissolve the seasoning in the burger, overcook it and now it’s just a hard piece of meat, which is why I approached this meal with caution. My worries were liberated the second I bit into this, cooked to perfection, and with the bread complimenting it and bringing it all together, there is absolutely no way I could have given it a lower rating. 5/5 Stars

All the 1-star reviews about this place are accurate. I usually walk past this place but I decided to give it a try since they had a nice sized patio with tvs. It didn't take long to order my food and it was ready in about 10-15 minutes. I ordered the 2-meat bbq plate with 2-sides and a small order of peace cobbler for desert. After I placed my order I asked the staff to turn on the tv so that I could watch the football game. Someone came out to turn on the tv and just left without turning to the football game. I asked 4-5 more times to have someone turn to the correct channel and each time I was told someone would be out but no one ever came so I turned the channel to the game myself after about 20-minutes. The treatment and lack of customer service is what I always expect from places like these with hood dudes taking orders. I ate a little bit of my food, the ribs were hot and falling off the bone but the beans were basic and the greens were bland and cold. This place is trash and I will not eat here again. I did like the BYOB however, It gives selling plates out my house from the back door. Eat someplace else, it is all the same.

Usually once a quarter I drive from Cypress down to The Shack to grab some smoked ribs & boudin. The customer service is always polite and respectful, which most black owned businesses need to keep in mind with their employees. Instead I decided to try their oxtails & okra stew. Boy oh boy the okra stew was on point but the oxtails it was just ok, which I was very disappointed I paid a premium price only to get 2 & 1/2 bones due to running out, he gave me 2 smoked pigs feet (which I don't eat BUT I tried it & it was different & tasty. I was dismayed this time they were out of just about everything. The ribs & brisket was ok, not s tasty as I remembered 2 months ago submerged in bbq sauce, which could've been the reason, I asked for it on the side but anyway. I will try again in a couple of months I still want my mild boudin.

My mom seen the owner on the news so I took her there on 12-2-2024. I love to support black own business. I ordered 2 boudin balls reg, 2 boudin balls with cheese, 1 bacon breakfast taco, 2 sausage taco's, and 1 seafood boudin. Which added up to about 27.00 but i was charge about 34.00 and some change. However I when I went over the charges with the manager. The manager agreed but I didn't like they couldn't credit the amount back to my card. I believe the manager didn't know either. So I just said add another seafood boudin link, then after waiting a while. They tell me there's no seafood boudin links. I was told I can come back and get it. I spend 34.00 bucks and the boudin i purchase balls was not cook all the way through. I was highly disappointed 😞. And my mom said the breakfast taco was plain. Also, i thought what you dont know you can't fixed. However I know the cashier was new and she was really nice. But I really think they was overwhelmed. I was supposed to come back again to pick up my seafood boudin links I paid for. But I just think everything was kinda mess up. I choose to contact the owner but no response. However I look at your video on Facebook and the owner seem like a nice person. Today I suppose to hear from someone about the boudin links and I haven't received a call. So I decided to not go back and I definitely wouldn't recommend no one. I pray...
