This place is the best place in Houston to get a Vietnamese Com Tam (broken rice) combination plate. In Com Tam, the rice grains are fractured, and it absorbs dipping sauces such as fish sauce better, it also has a better mouth feel compared to regular rice. The owner is a guy who has seen me grow up from a little kid in elementary school to an adult past 30 years old. That’s how long I’ve been eating at his establishment, back when he operated the original location on Wilcrest. That location also burned down when I was a little boy but re-opened, and I have fond, nostalgic memories of eating there with my family after church. It remained opened for several years until recently closing and now this location on Bellaire is the main and sole operating place. No other Com Tam place in Houston slaps like this. I’ve grown up, moved far away, doing other things but I still make the hour drive to eat here from time to time, this place has a special place in my heart.
Suggestions: Com Tam Bo Nuong, Tau Hu Ky, and Hot Ga (Grilled Beef, crispy skin tofu stuffed with ground shrimp, and a fried egg)
Also, the best Banh Bot Chien (fried rice flour pancake & egg) is also located here. It is the crispiest Banh Bot Chien on Bellaire Blvd. The Won Ton noodles are also pretty good, I used to get it when I had a hangover or a cold...
Read moreI had a very enjoyable dining experience at this restaurant. The food was good, and I especially appreciated how they offer soup alongside the rice dishes. The flavors reminded me of my hometown in Vietnam, which made the meal even more special for me. One of the highlights was their homemade lemonade juice. It brought back memories of my brother making it for me back home, and I really liked how refreshing it was.
They also have some traditional desserts like che me den and banh pia, though I didn’t have a chance to try all of them this time. I definitely plan to come back and try more of their offerings when I return to the Bellair area. Overall, a great place to enjoy authentic flavors and comforting dishes. I look forward to...
Read moreTheir com tan is so so, it's not that good nor that really bad but heads up, this place will try to overcharged your bill thinking that you wouldn't noticed. I went in there today with my other 3 friends and we ordered 4 plates of com tam with 2 cans of coke and 2 iced waters, the total came out as $48. The menu said each plate is $8.95 and coke is $1.50 even with taxes, how could it be $48? I didn't want to make a scene since my mom is running a restaurant business too so I quietly told the owner "you may want to stop with the overcharged, you need customers not to drive them away". So yeah if you come in there for com tam, be on the look out with your bill. I won't be coming back to...
