My wife, grandson, and I walked into Abby's this evening ( 07/22/21 ) about 7:40, ( posted closing time 8:00 ). We were met with silence and frowns from the two ladies behind the counter. We asked if they were still open, and received more of the same resistance. One lady looked at the other and said something to her. We distinctly got the impression from them, that they did not want to serve us because it would mean they would have to stay later to clean up. We left, and as I walked through the front door, I decided to go back inside. I told one of the ladies that I did'nt mean to be unkind. I told her that I used to work in a furniture store in Sherman for 27 years, ( 1973-2000 ). I said the posted closing time at the store was 5:00, but that if a customer came up at 5:00, we would surely let them in. I told her that, that was her time to shine. I'm not sure she understood what I meant. I'm assuming that Abby's is a family business also. Most family businesses don't survive to the third generation. A lot of them struggle to make it to the second. The furniture store I worked for, was a family business also, started by my grandfather in 1912. It is still open, largely because they are still striving to put customers first, even when a customer shows up at the door close to closing time. There's an old saying we used many years ago in the furniture business, that can apply to resturants also. It says " If the door don"t swing, the cash register don't ring ". I am not being unkind. in writing this review. I am trying...
Read moreOverall food wasnât terrible. The chicken fried steak was soggy, mashed potatoes were pretty thick. Ordered to go and asked for the gravy to be on the side for my chicken fried steak, but was told that would cost extra to put the gravy in a cup on the side instead of on the steak. That makes no sense, but I said okay and to just put it on the steak. I didnât want to cancel the whole order for that. The order website shows that the gravy comes on the side for mashed potatoes- this is not true. There was gravy all over everything in my order, including the okra. I feel like the CFS wouldâve been really good if it...
Read moreThe service from the owner was terrible. She was rude and as a business owner, you would think would care about customer satisfaction. I had ordered two potatoes instead of a potato and vegetable. The waitress came back and said it would be an upcharge. When I got the bill it was a charge for an entire side. This is not an upcharge and I didnât even get a vegetable. I talked to the owner and she said âwell thatâs the charge, have a good nightâ. Itâs sad because I like to support local businesses but the food wasnât all that good to deal with that...
