We went last Sunday & there wasn't one good part about the visit. We had a completely inattentive and disinterested server that took about 15 minutes to even greet us once we were sat. Not sure hospitality is the correct career for her. The few drinks that we actually had the opportunity to order were consistently melted by about 2 inches by the time she picked them up because they sat there so long. Then they tasted like all mix - we've had better drinks at chain restaurants.
Our appetizer of nachos took forever to come out. We paid extra for chicken and got 3 crumbles of it at best. We had an extremely simple order of a basket & sandwich, no modifications or restrictions, yet it took a hour and a half to get our food. MULTIPLE tables around us sat down, got their food, ate, LEFT, and the tables got reseated before we ever got our food. Our server was constantly nowhere to because found. When she finally showed up again we asked about our order and got an attitude, but like magic, the food appeared about 10 minutes later. The Cuban sandwich was so underwhelming that a toddler could of ate the entire thing & asked for seconds. But the real star of the day was the basket of tenders, which were so absolutely saturated and swimming in grease, with a bonus of burned black bits of clearly filthy oil, that they were slipping out of their coating and could literally be rung out. Needless to say, they were thrown out.
To make the day complete there was a house band & singer that we would of paid to shut up. Nails on a chalkboard would have been more pleasant to listen to. The music was so loud we couldn't hear one another talking over her shout-singing/screaming into the microphone, when she wasn't busy climbing on tables or dancing with the poles.
I don't know what happened to Sam's. Maybe it was a bad weekend, I don't know. We've been going there for years but won't be back anytime remotely soon, if at all. They're the only place like this in the area & they know it. Seems like they don't care because they know they'll get business regardless. So, you're wanting to circle for parking, wait 45 minutes for a table, and overpay for crappy drinks and food, then go to Clearwater Beach and do it. It's at least expected there and has a...
Read moreI have been here a half dozen times. It is a beautiful spot where you can eat outside or under cover but still get the breeze. A favorite friend loves this place so I go and I'm repeatedly disappointed. Yesterday was the worst. The peel and eat shrimp was not cleaned properly and tasted too soft. The crab cakes were good and previously I've had their coconut shrimp which is wonderful. I had the Tuesday taco special which came with beans and rice and 3 different tacos; pulled pork, grilled shrimp and blackened Mahi Mahi. My plate came and it had a mound of white rice covered in dried, sloppy black beans. There was no way I was even trying it. The mago salsa was good. The guacamole...was terrible. Looked like it had pepper in it, was brown in spots and it didn't even taste like avocado. I ate the shrimp out of the taco because it had so much cabbage in it that's all I could taste. The Mahi didn't taste like anything but I just stopped there. Someone at our table had the island chicken sandwich and enjoyed it, my husband had the cob salad with salmon and enjoyed his as well. My friend had the grouper entrée which looked great but he gave me some potatoes and seasonal veggies it came with and the potatoes were definitely not fresh and the veggies were under done and lacked flavor. Funny thing is I wanted to order the grouper but they wouldn't let me switch out the sides and I'm so grateful they didn't with the price of the plate because I would have been really disappointed. Our server was really nice but it took quite some time to get our food and to wait for the bill. The bill was almost $160 which would have been great for good food. The biggest issue for me is the birds. The staff feeds them and they poop on your table and literally steal food from your plate and even your hands and fork. At least try to deter them. Im very grateful they don't allow smoking even on their deck, which in FL is a bit rare. It's such a cool location but the food is NOT worth the money whatsoever. Everytime, for me, with the exception of the coconut shrimp has been sub par. Maybe some kitchen...
Read moreI’m sad that the food here has gone downhill. I grew up down the street and have gone here throughout its different management. I’m visiting and brought my partner here thinking it would still be good. I used to really like the fish tacos here. The food presentation used to be fantastic, but it was really pitiful. Three tiny, sad looking pieces of fried grouper on three tiny, sad, dry, stale tortillas that came with a small serving of mildly decent beans and rice for the crazy expensive price of 30$. (I live in Arizona and fish tacos are cheaper there where I don’t live near the ocean. I hate that I just paid 8$ a taco for the worst tacos ever). The guacamole was brown on top from being pre prepped served inside a small plastic container instead of made fresh. The mango salsa was okay. Even the lime wedge was dry and hard to get any juice out of it. The serving sizes here used to be really big, and for nearly half the price. It seems like they’re using their money more for the ambiance and tech rather than the ingredients of the food. The atmosphere is a little nicer compared to what it used to be, but the food we got was not good at all. We also tried the poke bowl and it definitely was not fresh tuna. The rice was dry. There was no flavor to it or any sauce on the tuna. The mango salsa was the most palatable part. This was by far the worst poke bowl I’ve ever had. Please, please put some sauce on that tuna for the love of god. Usually poke has some kind if flavorful sauce mixed onto the fish, but this was just raw, not fresh, tuna on dry cooked rice with some grated carrot, diced cucumber(also with no flavorful sauce of any kind), mango salsa, and a sprig of micro greens. Just awful, please do some research on the proper way to make poke. The appetizer was good though. Got the coconut shrimp. These days this seems to be a place to just drink alcohol, eat appetizers and watch that sunset, but there are better waterfront restaurants with better prices. Absolutely ridiculous to spend 66$ on poorly made food with small portion...
