A few weeks ago I made plans to meet with a friend at Standing Stone Coffee Company. Standing Stone Coffee is a newer coffee shop that opened a few years after I left the Huntingdon area. Though I was excited to try their coffee, I must admit that I wasn’t expecting much. Now, I don’t want to sound snobbish, but when you live in the coffee capital of the USA, one doesn’t expect to have REALLY GOOD coffee in central Pennsylvania….Boy was I wrong.
When I walked into Standing Stone Coffee I noticed the beautiful fragrance of freshly roasted coffee (they roast their own beans). I also noticed that the business had a wonderful atmosphere that would fit various situations. I could easily see myself going there to study, visit with a friend or work. The staff was very friendly and seemed to know a great deal about the coffee that they were brewing.
When I stepped up to the counter I ordered my “go to” drink: Americano. In case you don’t know, an Americano is basically a few shots of espresso with hot water added to it. It’s basically a stronger, smoother version of drip coffee. I noticed that their espresso beans were single origin Colombian from the Poppyan Region. Though most “coffee snobs” won’t consider Colombian beans a gourmet coffee, I’ll admit that it is one of my favorites!
In the case of Standing Stone Coffee, I really enjoyed this variety. It was smooth almost like silk, and there were deep dark chocolate undertones. I also noticed that this variety wasn’t acidic or citrusy like some, but rather it had a smooth nutty flavor.
I haven’t tried any of the other beverages at Standing Stone Coffee, but I assume that they are all fabulous as well. I’ve actually gone back twice since that first visit. This little coffee company definitely competes with some of the fine coffee shops in Seattle!
The best part about this visit is that I know now that there is a place for me to get coffee when I’m visiting my old...
Read moreStanding Stone is easily one of the best spots in town. I’ve tried a variety of their sandwiches, paninis, wraps, muffins, moon pies, and other baked goods—and I’ve never been disappointed. The prices are pretty standard for a coffee shop, and the quality is consistently great.
They offer a nice variety of drinks too—different brews, flavors, iced coffee, nitro cold brew, lattes, and of course, hot coffee. Service is always excellent; the staff is super friendly and happy to make things right if something isn’t to your liking.
The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. They’ve got their own Wi-Fi, air conditioning, books and board games you can use while you’re there, plus a nice outdoor patio with umbrellas if you want to sit outside. The bathrooms are always clean (two private ones), and there’s a ramp for accessibility, which is great to see.
Inside, there are a few different seating options—high-top tables, regular four-seaters, and a big round table that seats around 5–7 people. You can even move tables around if you’re with a bigger group.
They also sell snacks, their own coffee brand, and products for making different types of coffee at home. One of the things I really appreciate is that they support other local makers by selling unique items like handmade soaps, lotions, paintings, and more.
Every so often, they host fun events like coffee tastings, arts and crafts, and other community activities. Plus, they have a rewards program where you earn points on purchases—eventually leading to discounts or even free drinks. They also run occasional promotions like a few bucks off or a free beverage.
Overall, it’s always clean, the vibe is great, and it’s a super pleasant place to hang out, get some work done, or catch up with friends. Highly recommend...
Read moreWe made a 2hr drive to hit this coffee shop specifically, and hiking spot with a lookout. We ordered 2 shots of espresso to start. It literally took forever to get our shots..due to the espresso machine glitching out. Luckily the Barista making out shots knew what she was doing..and pulled the shot 5 different times for us to make sure out espresso was good. She apologized for the wait and served us basically a perfect shot. It was delicious. Thank you for taking the time in our espresso!! More often than not this isn't the outcome..no one cares about coffee as much as you think they would working at an artisan coffee shop. But this place takes the time and care to make sure your coffee is good. The added effort in making our espresso lead to ordering to go drinks..iced hazelnut, and my fiance got a fall special drink. Which both came out amazing!! There was plenty of room to sit.. definitely not over crowded. They also have seating outside. My only complaint was that the counter tops at the bar and some of the tables were dirty/sticky. Not really a fan of that..at all. They do have public gender neutral bathrooms..very clean, and are LGBTQ+ friendly. Everyone was super kind and helpful as well. The merch area is so large..I loved it. Shirts, coffee, french press, honey..so many items to look at. It was incredible. It's basically a small store as well. Fresh roasted coffee roasted by them. The place is just very cute. I'm definitely glad we...
