I recently overheard a couple coworkers talking about “this really nice place up in Huntingdon” that “is known for really great martinis”, so naturally my interest was peaked and I filed away this info for future reference. Unbeknownst to me, my girlfriend and I had a kid-free, plan-free weekend so we took advantage of our free Saturday evening and made it a date night, referring back to the restaurant recommendation from earlier in the week. Although about an hour away from us, we hopped in the car and made the trek. And, boy, was it worth it! Upon pulling up, we noted the charming crib appeal with the cute, quaint bistro sets outfront. We were sat by a lovely hostess (whose name I didn’t snag) at our requested table outside, with a spectacular view of the historic downtown and the beautiful brick work of Gage Mansion across the street. Our waitress, Avery, quickly greeted us and notified us of the in-season peach specials, and that we made it during happy hour- BONUS! With a blackberry peach whiskey sour in front of me, a blueberry lemon drop martini in front of my girlfriend m, and a smile on both of our faces, we were served our appetizers of crab bisque and cocktail shrimp with tequila lime dipping sauce. Having just been on a Carribean cruise in June and 8 days in Florida 2 weeks ago, we had our fair share of seafood and nothing, NOTHING, came close to both the bisque and the shrimp. The bisque was served at an appropriate, warm temperature with a subtle hint of crab in the smooth and creamy broth. Accompanied by just enough chunks of crab meat and the added texture of a few crackers, this soup was light yet hearty, and had me raving about it on the ride home. The peeled, deveined, and tail off shrimp were perfectly chilled and paired very well with the light, refreshing, zesty tequila lime dipping sauce. Transparent and lacking viscosity, I was fearful the sauce would be lacking flavor but that was definitely not the case. Entrees ordered after heard recommendations from our waitress, we settled on the 12oz NY Strip with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli, and the traditional Alfredo with chicken. Being raised in a rural community by a family of butchers, I have had many a steak that would knock your socks off, but never have I ever gone to a restaurant and had a steak come anywhere CLOSE to what I’m familiar with at home; until last evening. Cooked to the perfect, medium doneness with melted garlic chive butter pouring off the sides, I moaned with every bite. The edges of the steak were perfectly charred, enhancing the peppery flavor. The garlic potatoes complemented the garlic chive butter on the steak, tying the two together. And the seasoned, flavorful broccoli was tender enough to stick a fork into yet hard enough to still get a little crunch; a difficult feat to accomplish. The chicken Alfredo was another 5 star dish, per my significant other. Only having a bite, I was ready to arm wrestle her for the rest of it! Finishing the evening off with dessert cocktails, she had a chocolate martini, including the hazelnutty flavors of Frangelico, and I had a nuts and berries, mixed in a style different than my familiar, but delicious nonetheless! Although one of the more expensive meals I’ve paid for, I have no qualms with paying for a meal as delicious and filling as what we had. Given it was a breezy, 80° evening on the shaded sidewalk and the service was incomparable, it was just the perfect evening with my perfect partner. Not having had a date night in months, maybe even a year, we were VERY pleased with our entire experience- food quality, service, atmosphere was all 5 stars. We will definitely be back again and will absolutely be recommending this little piece of heaven to all our friends and family! Thanks...
Read moreThe restaurant wasn’t busy since it was mid week. Atmosphere was nice but why have votive candle holders on the table when you don’t have candles in them? The menu was so-so, not many chicken selections and I was NOT a big fan on the whole a la Carte thing. The Cauliflower Wing appetizer was very good and my a la carte salad was huge but there was so much spinach and hardly any bacon, red onion or dressing in it. It was mostly a big plate of fresh spinach. I ordered Chicken Florentine and my piece of chicken was about the size of two chicken strips. Another individual ordered crab cakes and although they tasted good, crab cakes for dinner should be dinner sized, not appetizer size. The former Mimi’s appetizer crab cakes were bigger than these that were supposed to be an entree. The a la carte side dish that serves “3” was about the size of a cereal bowl so if we hadn’t ordered an appetizer or salad you would definitely have been hungry. I was expecting Brussel sprout heads not shredded Brussel sprouts that had no flavor. The description said Bacon & Lemon Aoli. It doesn’t say anything about being shredded. There was no bacon taste and definitely lacked any taste of lemon. I’ve tasted better frozen vegetables bought at Weis Markets than how this tasted. No bread or breadsticks are served at all. Coffee is a French press so heaven forbid you want more than two cups because again it’s another charge. My chocolate sushi dessert was tasty but again the “4” circles were smaller than the size of a quarter and being served dessert without a clean fork on a piece of slate so you couldn’t enjoy the raspberry sauce because it was stuck in the grooves of the slate. l had to take a fork off the table next to me because the hostess was too busy talking to a group at the next table. Once the dessert was served our server vanished and then we saw her with her coat on so we knew we must have stayed too long. It was 8:30 and the place lists their hours that they are open until 10 and like l said it was mid week and there were so many empty tables so it’s not like we were holding them for seating others. The server we had had was not rude but she wasn’t the friendliest either. All in all the atmosphere is nice minus the absence of candles although like l said the useless holders take up space on the table & the food portions outside of the salad are extremely small so it’s not a place to patronize if you haven’t had lunch and you are hungry. I would recommend going to Boxers because the portion size is much better. If your looking for presentation, 312 does a good job at that. I will not be...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place but I was disappointed. My wife and had a great time in Orbisonia at the East Broad Top railroad. We made reservations here for a nice dinner on our way home. We started with cocktails and they were delightful. We wanted mussels for an appetizer but they were out so I opted for some tortellini lobster soup and my wife got their take on Bruscheta. The soup was incredibly salty. I had a hard time eating it and probably should have sent it back. The toast with chopped tomatoes was just that, nothing special. Then I ordered the chicken cordon bleu. The veg of the day was a side or ceaser salad. We both chose ceaser salad but then the server came back and said they were out of romaine lettuce. Not sure why that would be the veg of the day when you don't have inventory? Back to the chicken cordon bleu. I've had this many times before at other places so I know what it should be. This was an overdone boneless chicken breast with a piece of ham lunch meat and some Swiss cheese melted over top. This would have been fine on a bun as a sandwich, but not as an entrée.
All in all, the cocktails and service was very good but the food definitely does not warrent the high price. If we go back, we will have different expectations or we will find another...
