UPDATE: I am raising my review from 1 star to 2 stars based on the superb customer service experience after I posted my review. The owner contacted us directly immediately after I posted apologizing and offering to do anything possible to make it right. That means a lot, especially this day and age with the way customer service seems to be a thing of the past. I really hope that this place improves their food because we REALLY want to like it and support local businesses. ......
DEFINITELY would NOT recommend. This was our first time and ONLY time we tried this place out. We called in a to-go order and they asked when we would like to pick it up and we told them we'd be there in 30 minutes. My husband got there around 40 minutes later. The employee told my husband that they were so busy that they forgot to make our order. We were ok with that, thinking that it would be hot and fresh, and we understand that dinner time can be hectic. When my husband got home with the food we noticed that we were missing a side and had hardly any BBQ sauce. We ordered 2 brisket plates with two sides each, a rib sandwich with two sides, and then two additional sides. One brisket plate had one small container of BBQ sauce and the other plate had a small container not even half-way full. The rib sandwich had no BBQ sauce on it at all and was iced cold all the way through. The rib meat was very chewy, and the bread was stale and crumbling. The smoked Mac and cheese was sour tasting and had the consistency of cardboard. The BBQ beans were not good at all. They tasted strange. They were just pinto beans with some red bell pepper mixed in with no flavor really. The potato salad was OK. The homemade chips were terrible. Some were still raw and the others were super chewy. The sliced bread that came with the brisket plates was very stale and tasted old. The brisket was the only good thing. It was actually really good. And the BBQ sauce was very good as well, but we hardly got any with our entire meal. My husband ended throwing his entire rib sandwich away and we ended up throwing away all the sides. The only thing we ate was the brisket. Very disappointed because we were really excited to see another BBQ place in Madison, as we like to buy local. We called and spoke to the manager and asked for a refund and she was very apologetic and said that she would refund us our money. The employees were very nice as well and very apologetic. We really wanted to like this place but were beyond...
Read moreOverall: Overpriced and okay BBQ, Great location, friendly staff Would I go back: Only if my friends/family REALLY wanted to go Should you go: If you get the Potato, if you are actually hungry though...bring a snack, they don't give you much food. Review: This is located directly in the Stovehouse district in the restaurant row. It is a BBQ place situated amongst many other types of food. We ordered the Brisket Sandwich, the Grilled Cheese for my son and the Pulled Pork Potato for my daughter. Unfortunately, I got the Brisket and it had some chips but it was far from making me full and I feel like I'm an average sized guy. This sandwich was close to $11. We did order some of the Pork Skins. This was the most disappointing because I feel for a true "authentic" BBQ place, that they would NOT use store bought pork rinds that you find at MAPCO. That is exactly what these were packaged with some spice just to supposedly add flair to the appetizer. I guess having true pork rinds from you know...an actual BBQ roast, I am spoiled but this is not worth your money and you should stay away from it. All you'll get is a big bag of disappointment and more money out of your wallet. The kids grilled cheese was good, but as you see from the photo, not much to look at. The only thing worth it was the potato. I actually had to eat some of the daughters food just to be full. The White BBQ sauce was a good part of that meal. So if you do go, save yourself some time looking at the menu and just get the potato. Kids Review: It was good, but I don't want to go back. There is better food around this place. Total cost of meal: Appx $43 with Sandwich Meal, Rinds, Potato, Grilled Cheese,...
Read moreI ordered the pork plate with chips and "smoked" mac n cheese. I also threw in some sausage too. Portion size was good, it was a little pricey ($5 for the extra sausage link and extra for the "premium" mac n cheese). They throw in some decent bread with it too. The pulled pork was really good. The regular red sauce was pretty bland. The "spicy" red sauce was really good and more like traditional BBQ sauce and wasn't spicy at all. The sausage was good, they put jalapeños and cheese (too much really) so it is spicy and cheesy. The chips are house made and if you've ever had house made chips anywhere, you know the flavor can be hit or miss since the seasoning doesn't really stick to the chip. The premium smoked mac n cheese was ok. It didn't tasted smoked at all. They use penne pasta which is weird. This was my least favorite part. It tasted and looked like a Velveeta skillet meal without the meat. The location is in a strip mall type thing on the other side of a fenced court yard from the parking lot. Everything is "to-go" and there is no interior dining space or seating. All the seating is outside. The food was assembled very quickly and the staff was fine. Overall it was okay to good. The inconvenience of location/dining probably keeps me from being a regular even though I work less than a mile away. Also they did not have turkey on the menu when I went. Overall I wouldn't go out of my way to go there but I wouldn't...
