Myself and a group of friends went to the Blue Plate Cafe for the first time recently. At first I was impressed with the mood and atmosphere of the place. The perfect lighting at the correct warmth and aesthetic choices. I think it's clear that the owners or managers pay special attention to the way the place looks.
However everything from there on out was either bad or mediocre. We had the dinner menu, I can't speak to the breakfast. The place was not packed, not even at 50% capacity so the following problems were not due to being too busy.
We all ordered, and a few minutes later our waitress comes out and tells us that there is no more dessert of the day which we all ordered. Mind you this is only at 6:30 p.m. so I asked about if they have any pie available instead and she suggests that we would have to pay extra for that. I felt like that was a little bit of a slap in the face so I asked her to ask the manager who I assume somehow found more dessert of the day all of the sudden because I'm fairly sure that's what they brought us.
This alone would still probably be good enough for a 4-star rating. But it does not stop there. I should mention that refills were very slow on drinks. When the food was brought out they didn't know whose food was whose so we ended up having a swap plates a few times. And mine was completely wrong. They somehow confused a baked potato and broccoli casserole with mashed potatoes and spinach. To their credit they brought the correct food out shortly thereafter.
All I can say about the food is that it was okay. Nothing to really draw us back. To me this is really the worst part. What's even the point of a restaurant if they can't serve knockout food?
At the end of the night we still tipped above standard because I don't feel like most of the problems were the server's fault. Seeing the other reviews I do not believe any problems we had are common but I must report on my own experiences. Even without the errors in service I do not think the food was good enough for me to go back on a...
Read more5 stars 3 times!!! -This was my first visit and the impression that was made at this Blue Plate will be a memory I wont soon forget!
I went for the breakfast since that is my favorite meal of the day. My waiter Courtney was absolutely fantastic and all of my questions, suggestions, and requests pertaining to the foods that I inquired about was so diligently handled I was truly impressed at that moment of the heightened awareness to customer satisfaction.
From that point as my food proceeded and I began to sample the various spreads I eased closer to my banana pecan pancake with a few dashes of cinnamon sprinkled in the batter- I must say when I sliced it and took that first bite I had my Ratatouille moment literally remembering the day when I was a child and my dad took me to waffle house and I had my first waffle... The butter, the warm syrup, the crisp waffles Ahhhh!!! This was that moment--as a child that waffle house blew my mind but as a man this without hesitation will be my breakfast spot of choice.
As my wife coined it, this place is like the Nashville's Pancake Pantry of Huntsville and I must say I agree 😉. Feel free to enjoy this spot if you haven't already - it gets my...
