Chicago Pita Kitchen — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

I will not sit here and lie. The food is great. But it seems like those of the African American community, particularly the younger looking. They are not too friendly to service. A father and his son came in right before me. (Caucasian) the father already gave me a look before entering the establishment before I had time to completely park. I proceed to enter the business, from that moment the vibes were weird. The father kept prolonging the order, and kept adding extra last minute. (It's my off day so whatever) It seemed like to make my wait time longer. Not knowing my wife had already placed the order over the phone. There was a gentleman sitting on the far end of the counter where you pick up at I guess. Waited about 20 minutes, to even be recognized, and then took for 2 Cops to come in. Then all of sudden it's yeah who's next, from the guy sitting all the way down the counter while I waited in this other mans face for even a hello. Then I tell them it's a pick up. Then it's all hey how it's going. I feel like they don't appreciate all their customers the same. Do not recommend for people of color(Black) cause they don't seem too friendly too us or...

This place was highly recommended by my co-workers. It looked promising, so I tried two sirloin sandwiches, souvlaki and another that is one of their specialties. The souvlaki was bland, and the other specialty sandwich was better. If I go back, I would probably stick to gyros or other Chicago style food.

The other issue I had was the language they use in front of customers. Two employees cooking in the back were using foul language in Spanish loud enough so I could clearly hear in the lobby. Maybe they didn't know I speak Spanish, but for that reason I'd be a lot less likely to take my kids there. It didn't stop there though. The employees in the front were using foul language quite frequently right in front of all the waiting customers. I understand that this is the South side of Chicago, but my kids love good Chicago-style food whenever we visit. And talking like that is completely optional. The food is excellent, but service is horrible... Multiple times, including just now, I've called, been placed on hold, and could hear several orders being taken, and even conversations by the staff going on in the background and NO ONE comes back to the line. I've hung up, waited a few minutes, called back and gotten the same... Several times when I am able to place an order, I get there and the food is not ready... takes 20 minutes, so there goes my lunch break. Delivery was worse... I called it in early... 11:45. By 12:20, still no delivery. I call, and am told the delivery is on its way. 12:30 the delivery guy calls and says he's just leaving the place...(there goes my lunch break... AGAIN). The only way to get decent service is to take an early break, and hope they keep up with your order when you get there. They're not bad people but service is touchy.. sometimes good, but when bad... it's REALLY bad. Very...
