Yes, indeed! I need to echo what many others have already stated: D's has it going on.
This is a black-owned business, a family-owned business, an entrepreneurial business. Their food is homemade, authentic, and delicious. They will treat you like extended family... but it's also run professionally. How can you go wrong??
So many Caribbean restaurants only offer meager, miscellaneous side dishes for vegetarians, and even less if you're vegan. Their menus feel completely uninspired. Not at D's! We loved the food and felt like we had a proper meal here. In fact, the portions are no joke, so we ended up with enough for two sittings.
The owner called directly to notify me they had run out of an item we ordered, asking what would be an acceptable alternative to make things right. A simple act of courtesy, but how rare is this in today's society?
As for the food, everything was fresh, well spiced, flavorful, and unique. Mauby drink is made in-house, the legit way. It may startle your taste buds and throat if you're unfamiliar with it, but pairs beautifully with the food; together they are transportive. My only wish concerning the menu is that the vegetarian options eventually will expand even further.
The South Side needs more restaurants like D's. Chicagoans from all around are strongly encouraged to support this fine establishment, a true destination that contributes meaningfully to our cultural landscape. And all y'all amateurs should come in here and be schooled a bit on how it's done!
(Last, if you're at home enjoying this food, I have a recommended soundtrack: "Milwaukee & Ashland" by...

The buss up shut was on point it reminds me of when I was living in Trinidad and Tobago with every bite I feel like a little kid running in the streets of Trinidad eating Snowcones With the bus up shut and watching the cricket games.
The Dhalpuriwith made on point 10/10 I must say the flavor of the curry and juiciness of the boneless chicken was beyond amazing. The chicken is not dry out at all the Glover of the curry is not over overwhelming every flavor complement each other with the firmness of the potatoes truly takes me back to my child hood the curry sauce is very thick which is a good thing allowing the Dhalpurito not fall apart.
It's very hard to find good Caribbean food in Chicago, IL I was born and risk in the Caribbean lived in many Caribbean countries and I must say this food is close to home.

This is the best Trinidadian food in Chicago! And, even if you don't know what that means, this is incredibly flavorful and filling food that will never disappoint! Anytime I am craving food that tastes homemade, this is my first choice.
The delicious flavor is beat only by the incredible customer service. Dawn treats everyone like a family member. It feels so good to feel seen and be fed.
Right now, they are open for catering and it is truly a treat. Dawn personally delivers the food and all of my guests could not stop talking about the warm vibes and the delicious food.
