Just Jerk Cafe's — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

Im not the type to complain, but poor customer service, Terrible tasting sides and unprofessional company to not be able to give refund reciepts. Overall their salad are absolutely delicious. Like any other time, I ordered two of their salad. My friend needing to eat something as well asked what do I recommend? I told her, I haven’t had any thing other then their salad. I goes into the establishment asking the young lady at the counter is this food fresh and good she answers yes it good I recommend eveything in here. And that she wouldn’t lie to me because this is her job. So my friend orders two white dinners. The chicken was nicely prepared but the macaroni was cold and old. The sweet Potatoes were very yellow, meaning they had any to little flavor, it desired no taste at all not a teaspoon of sugar cinnamon or nutmeg. Even the sour dough bread was hard. To the point we didn’t even give the rice a chance. But it doesn’t stop there. Not satisfied wit the food we take one of the dinners back for refund. The young lady gives me improper change. When I asked for a receipt she catches an attitude and gets to responding in a very unprofessional manner telling me she can’t give me a receipt of my refund. So I reply The total I paid n the total I got back were two different amounts. She then tells me oh well, u don’t have your receipt. So how would I kno. So I goes to get my receipt n we later have a debate about my receipt. Giving that it’s time to pick up the kids I no longer have time to argue n debate about some change but what I do have spare time for now while sitting on the side of my kids school waiting is to write this review. First time visiting the establishment and Im glad I gave them a try. I have to say I was impressed from the moment I ordered my meals. The cashier was very polite and patient with me while I made my choices and asked a lot of questions about the menu and how long they had been open. I never knew the restaurant was there. The restaurant is not well lit from the outside, I would have missed it if I was not given specific directions and told its right next door to Dukes lounge, which I have visited several times in the past. The young lady informed me that they have been open for almost 10 years mind-blowing. If I was not referred by my hair stylist last night I still would not have known that they were there. Shoot out to Ms Connie very professional and knowledgeable hair stylist on 79th specializing in natural hair, braids, everything (531 E 79th). Back to my jerk :-) I ordered two oxtail dinners and one jerk chicken dinner. The oxtails were super tender, fall off the bone tender the cabbage was seasoned just right, the rice and beans were delicious with the oxtail gravy on top and I also had a side of Mac and cheese which was just okay. The mac could have been creamier and more cheesy but that's just the way I like my Mac and cheese. Jerk chicken dinner was cooked to perfection also tender with a really good flavor, it had a different kind of sauce on top of the rice and beans a hint of sweetness, different but not bad at all. But when she told me the amount I was flabbergasted😬. I told her that I had priced my chooses from the online menu and she politely told me that the menu online was old and the prices had changed and they hadn’t updated it.. I’m like that’s false advertising because if ppl are interested in coming and view the online menu they’re going to expect the prices listed especially if they’re in another suburb and traveled just to try your food.. then you hit them with $20 over what they had anticipated.. somebody or the owner should make sure if the prices are changed (and they’re quite expensive now) the online menu should b updated!!
