Rather then go into a commercial I think it makes sense to explain something. Soul Veg City is a place I have been to twice. Each time my expectations have been removed and replaced with a new understanding. The first time there was no line to "point and pick" what items from the popular hot/cold side respectively. The upgrade in the seating area took me by surprise. Not to say it was something to be taken lightly on my first order. This visit I started with the line since I saw a few things that I wanted for sure. But first.....need to call my Mom since she has to do decide on an order. Then just like that I am helped with the names, how things work and she even helped me explain to my "OG" (Origin of Growth.) Feel free to use that, just know who coined it😂🤣😭. All that help and she was on the way to break. The professional atmosphere is no joke. She then went back on the service side and blessed me with my choices. Excited doesn't do it.....I'm ready to eat. The large container and small bowl are just over 2lbs. The tap & pay is on the side of the register just in case you are "slightly touched" like me and feel like standing there without any sense, lol. As I went for the spoon she gave me napkins (which I missed at the register, STOP JUDGING ME!!🤭.) Or I should say "Leave Me Lone!" like the Mike Epps stand-up with a fully dressed hotdogs in the pocket, lolololol. Ok.....she the goes on break after troubleshooting anything that could stop me from enjoying my food.....thank goodness since I need that. My food made me do a happy dance in my seat. I got halfway done and remembered I need to make that order for my "OG" (Mom.....come on and follow along now, lol.) Now back to my food....I want to be in my personal dream again without being bothered, lol. I finish, clean up after myself and go to wash my hands. Not before to lovely young ladies walk in next to me. One says, "It even smells healthy in here!" To which I laughed and replied, "I'm not going to do this which ya'll lolololo." Here dining friend looked at me, heard I heard and started laughing.....so we had a moment and I feel blessed, no lie. After washing my hands I get my extra napkins, fold and place in pocket while I wait for the "strawberry dream smoothie?".....don't quote me. But this napkins are going in the glove box....nobody should be short glove box napkins, just saying. The professional that went to break and came back helped me with my smoothie also.....and I added the protein like my first visit waaaaay back. This time I tap & paid quickly...... I'm getting the hang of it.... after I got told to pay so I would "hold up traffic." Totally and compete truth!.....lolol, I was crying and we both agreed. Got my smoothie and took seat to wait opposite the dining area. Smoothie was beyond good. I was worried since the one I got so long ago was not on the list. Yet still this one gave me just as much joy. My order was called out and in a branded bag nice and neat. To say I had an experience is just a statement. I feel like I lived a bit of my true life interacting with knowledgeable, professional, business minded and "down-to-earth-individuals" who are pleasant to be around with a mission to educate and just get you to a moment in your day that involves "delicious health." Go ahead use that too......just know who coined it. Also YOU have a lot of time on your hands reading this.....stop being a complete "creep" and patronize this "alternative reality"......"On Life." "Declassified Swag on Google." Lol.....I truly LOVE the CITY. Thank you Soul Veg City

Read moreDo you want to read something hilarious? When I arrived this morning, I waited in the lobby for literally 10 minutes. No one came out to greet me, the waitress who was tending to 2 tables saw me and went back and forth to the BOH. It was not busy AT ALL; I was the only one in the lobby when I initially arrived. This was my first time at this establishment and I didn't know what to do- should I scream to the kitchen that there is a line of customers building up in FOH? The funny part was when I got tired of waiting and called their landline to place my order. They answered promptly too- after the 2nd ring. It wasn't until then that the hostess came out to greet the now 4 people that were waiting for takeout orders. No smile, no hello. What made me upset was that when the door flew open, I could see an employee blatantly on their iPhone w/ a blue and black case!!!! Anyways, I told her that I was the one who JUST placed the telephone order. LOL!!!! I decided to come here based from their Mac and Cheese that is sold at Whole Foods- I regret coming. It's such a shame because this review would have EASILY been a 4 or 5 star rating based from the taste of the food- it was delicious, minus my watery tofu scramble. My 2 stars are STRICTLY on taste- customer service deserves 0 stars. Would I ever come back? For Christ's sake, NO. I don't want nonchalant, life hating people making my food. Energy is transferrable, so I'll save my gas. Word of advice to reviewers, just travel a little further down east to Majani's. Great hospitality, delicious food, beautiful and well kept restaurant. The sight of this restaurant made me lose my appetite- the refrigerated section was leaking out puddles of water and the entire place was muddy and falling apart. I'm so sad because I was so excited to come- black owned and located right in a black community. Such a shame! Management has to do better! Word of advice- remove the tip jar from the lobby. It is an insult to even insinuate that ANYONE there deserves a tip for that...
Read moreI was excited for this place, since I used to love soul food before going vegan and haven't had it in ages. On a business trip to Chicago, when I discovered this place I immediately put it on my vegan bucket list. First of all if anybody whose been here thinks that their service is good, they either came on a day they got lucky with a waitress that cared or have very low exceptions on what good service is. The second I entered this place, nobody greeted me. I literally waited for 8 minutes before I just gave up and seated myself. All somebody had to say was, "just seat yourself". duh. When we did find a table, our waitress never came by, never introduced herself. Maybe they were closing? Who knows, not a word was spoken. I actually ended up walking to the to-go section, grabbed some cold contains of the ribs and mac n' cheese and brought them over to my table. In a hurry to make an appointment, I just ate everything. In all fairness, the food was very good and maybe could have been excellent if it was hot. First impressions, mean a lot. Besides the lady at the to-go section, nobody had any personality or pride with their restaurant which is a real shame. Everybody sort of seemed miserable to be there. As far as the decor, it is what it is... a soul food restaurant in southside Chicago. I been to a few in numerous cities and poor to fair is what the decor often is, but its not a bad thing. They typically aren't fancy, and I was fine with that. Just wish the place was better managed. Sure, my trip there was on Memorial Day but don't open if you aren't prepared to give it 100%. One person told me the place was open til 9, another said 7. Just completely disorganization. I was expecting at least an effort. When you go to most soul food restaurants, the "soul" is what makes it special. This was sadly a soul restaurant with very...
