We finally got around to trying Fire and Ice for a Saturday breakfast. The atmosphere is really enjoyable. It was somewhat quiet but not empty on a rainy morning, and the decor is beautiful. The two gentlemen working behind the counter were both professional and friendly.
My husband loved his pepperjack and bacon biscuit sandwich and said his latte was excellent, and my knockwurst soup was delicious.
Everything here seems calm, clean, and slightly upscale. Relaxing.
On the negative, sorry:
The sandwich is, well, very cute. Adorable. Twee. ... microscopic.
There were a lot of wonderful sounding items on the menu, (that did not appear to be miniatures), but I am a low carb eater and there was basically nothing for me (my shot in the dark, the knockwurst soup, turned out to be mostly a bowl of very tasty potatoes). Google pictures frittata as a menu highlight, which was why I came here, but that is not actually on the menu. (The Google review also asks if I would recommend the frittata. Well, no.)
While the menu didn't really fit my needs, the food was all excellently prepared, and I would most definitely come back for a coffee!
ETA: thank you for the response. If you google Fire & Ice Cafe, fritatta is still showing up as a menu highlight. And while potatoes, chick peas and gluten free biscuits are viewed as healthy food, they are definitely not low carb items. I do appreciate the offer to exchange for a green salad, that will be my go-to next time. Again, your place is lovely, it's just not a...
Read moreApproximately 2 weeks ago ordered from gluten and vegan free menu. Within 30 minutes after eating I was extremely sick, throwing up nonstop for 20 minutes and felt miserable for days. I decided to give the restaurant another try with take out this time. The bacon was undercooked, the meat portion was nearly the same color as the fat. We called to discuss the options and was met with silence and then the phone was handed to the chef. The chef said the bacon is fully cooked 7 mins!! We strongly disagreed that would be undercooked. Then there was silence and the phone was handed to someone else. We asked what can be done and was told we would have to bring the food into the store. Which is where the young person at the counter began to tell us that we are rude. While they picked the bacon out of the food they asked us to bring back and ate it mouth open and yelling about it being safe all at the front counter and in front of other customers trying to eat. They also had the owner on the phone on speaker phone talking poorly about us, they apparently did not know they were on speaker, and how we are wrong about white bacon being undercooked. The person behind the register then literally threw cash at us after saying they did not know how to do refunds. Never will we go back to this establishment, nor recommend it. Completely unprofessional, and honestly disgusting behavior of...
Read moreThe best breakfast in Indy.
And even better, it’s entirely gluten free.
The biscuit sandwich with ham is my absolute favorite. It is so flavorful and hearty, it keeps me full for hours. The biscuit itself is incredible, it’s hard to believe that it’s gluten free— but it is!
The coffee here is incredibly delicious. If you order an iced latte it comes with coffee ice cubes which allows you to take your time and savor every sip without having a watered down beverage.
The crepes are magnificent if you’re wanting something sweet. My husband has also tried the galette which is a savory crepe, and he thoroughly enjoyed it.
Whether you’re sitting inside or outside, the atmosphere is extremely charming. This is a wonderful place to catch up with a friend or even get a bit of work done- they have Wi-Fi!
I’m so grateful to have a dedicated gluten free restaurant near me. If you’ve read this far, get up and go! You...
