We are all about respecting prices for owner operated businesses, but at the same time, know that there is generally a standard in the industry. We used to order from Happy garden, until their prices skyrocketed, so we knew that it would be a little higher priced than our usual restaurant. Tonight, we were out of options because of the hour. We ordered over the phone and when the price seemed significantly high, even knowing their prices went up, I went to see the breakdown for the items online. After preparing an order online, we found a discrepancy after factoring in the $10 delivery cost, so I called back and the person taking orders verified that prices matched online to what they were charging, with the exception of one item being just a dollar more than online listed. We ordered a large of general tso's, orange chicken, 2 chicken on the stick, 1 crab rangoon, 6 egg rolls, Qt shrimp lo mein, and Qt shrimp fried rice and 1 bourbon chicken. Before delivery cost, we were told our order totaled to $116.81, adding to $126 with delivery. Online, our order calculated to $99.83, adding on an $8.98 tax. Our total should have been around $118 with delivery included. When I called back to explain this issue, the person on the phone just kept replying that I should order online. When the delivery arrived, altogether it ended up being $127.32. The food was mostly cold, which around 10 at night I basically expected. If I have missed any details that explains why the numbers were so different, I'd love to hear that, but at this rate, we will likely continue to patronize other...
Read moreThe reviews for this restaurant got me really excited to try it. However, the experience was very disappointing. The staff members were friendly and very polite and that is why I gave 1 star and didnt start this review with a rant. I ordered the large Beef Foo Young and the Orange chicken combo plate and requested it be made extra spicy. The egg foo young was tragic. The 'beef' was stringy and grey and pink in color. The sauce tasted like bland gravy that was wayyy too salty and thick. The vegetables inside were under cooked and hard. I did not eat any of the 'beef' and when I tried picking it out and just eating the egg and veggies I discovered they were raw veggies. The orange chicken was a hard pile of meat and the sauce was terrible. It was not spicy at all and the sauce had no flavor and was dark brown in color. As some one who loves authentic chinese food this place was all wrong and didnt even come close. The rice with my egg foo young was brick hard, but the rice in my orange chicken combo plate was watery. I didnt even bother going back to this place because there were signs posted everywhere saying no refund, exchange only. Why would I want more undercooked suspect food when my first order was enough to warrant a call to the health inspectors office? The staff are nice but nice doesnt run a business. I am hoping this was just a horrible night for them because at the total price of 17.99 my respect for this place...
Read moreIt's the exact same food as every other local chinese food restaurant. You can pretty much call ANY of them to place an order and they all have what you ask for, they just charge different prices. These places come a dime a dozen, aren't truly authentic and all taste the same. That being said, I will be using a different restaurant.
I've only used Happy Garden maybe half a dozen times. I've just concluded that I've got a 50/50 chance that all my food will be packed. The last few times, my order was messed up. An egg roll was left off my combo meal and they forgot to put in the condiments I requested. The second time they forgot to pack the sweet and sour sauce for our chicken. I called and it took half an hour to get someone to bring it by. At that point, the chicken was cold and soggy.
Today, was partially my fault. I actually went in to carry it out myself since I had previous bad experiences. They weren't friendly..didn't acknowledge that I even entered the building. Other than telling me how much I owe, I wasn't spoken to. I checked the order before I drove off but didn't realize until I got home that I asked paid for a large soup and didn't get it. I didn't even bother going back for it since a detailed receipt isn't given to prove it...
