I love the Caucasian midwesterners in the reviews talking about how this isn’t “real” Mexican food lol!!!! I just moved to Indianapolis with my partner from Los Angeles as an LA native and first gen Mexican American, and when I say I feel blessed that this place exists in the Midwest wooo! My partner and I were hitting all the spots in the city looking for decent Mexican food and everything was somewhere on the scale of mediocre low quality and garbage... until Tlaolli. This spot is quality- the owner really knows what they are doing. The vegan options like the hibiscus taco and jackfruit are on par with all the great Mexican vegan options in LA- just wish their was a cashew vegan crema to go along with those tacos. The chicken mole taco is outstanding (would have liked a liitttlle more mole it’s so good!) and you can taste the quality of ingredients even down to the tortillas themselves. We got the beef tamale as well and it was different- definitely dry because the masa is made with olive oil so the textures were not right but the flavor was aaall there. I can’t wait to try more options as this spot is officially our go to taco spot. This is the place to go if you’re looking for a cleaner more decolonized authentic Mexican food spot. You want greasy cheap faux mexi tacos? Hit...
Read moreI don't think I've ever had better food at a Mexican restaurant. The name isn't easy to pronounce (Tlah-oh-lee), but the food isn't hard to love.
We came out on a Friday night with friends to celebrate my wife's birthday. If you've read my reviews before, you know that food allergies and Celiac disease are part of our challenges when going out to eat. But eating here was effortless. Everything was clearly marked.
The establishment's owner, Carlos Hutchinson, was kind and friendly as he helped my wife find safe options. The food came out in a very reasonable time. They prepare their food to order, and you can taste the quality of the ingredients and the preparation.
We all ate, and the food quickly disappeared. It was a delicious meal, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. There are still items on that menu that I want to try. I don't think I'll need to push very hard to get everyone in our group to eat there again.
I had the chicken chipotle taco and the Carnitas taco. The chicken was really good but as good as it was, the pork carnitas was the best! If you check out Tlaolli, you will be treated to fresh and well-prepared food, and I hope you love it as...
Read moreI’d received the recommendation that this place had delicious vegan tacos, tamales, and more. Social media checked out. My family was planning a road trip and instead of leaving Friday night, we pushed our plans to Saturday to swing through Tlaolli on our way through Indianapolis.
I knew that I was going to love the food. I could practically taste the pics on IG. Have you ever had a life affirming meal? It’s that perfect crossroads of being hungry meeting delicious food. That was my Saturday lunch at Tlaolli.
The no no no and jackfruit tacos were inhaled. Both were exquisite. We went hard and heavy on the vegan tamales. My six year old loves to make and eat tamales at home. Our eyes were larger than our stomach so we split one. The tamale has me rethinking my recipe at home. Delicious.
Indy, you have a certified gem on your hands. Don’t sleep and don’t wait. I’m already trying to plan out my next visit.
To the team at Tlaolli, thank you for the wonderful food and service. I look forward to...
