A true tap house, with a clientele that makes you think twice.

Indio Taphouse is a long-awaited contribution to the downtown area, and Indio as a whole. It's what other more populated, popular areas have plenty to choose from. From the time you pull up, to inside and dining, the place looks bonafide. It's the people there that makes you second-guess your choice.

Staff is friendly and prompt. Drinks are quick and right-on. After a few minutes, the noise, the yelling, the feeling that there are certain people in here that act like they own the place start to set in.

The Tap House is a locals bar. We're 20-year locals, but we didn't match the yelling and noise level. People who just got off from work, people who feel like they need to drink the day away and yell in the process -- all atmospheric detractors that reduce the otherwise 5-star rating of the Indio Taphouse.

As a bonus, on the way out, we discreetly tried to walk past two guys disagreeing about something, only to have a staff member come outside to make sure two other guys paid their tab before leaving (which it looked like they were).

Great potential, just needs a bit of a calming down 2 or 3...

I didn’t know what to expect from what I would call a Bar-Grill restaurant but o was happily surprised.

We started with meatballs as an appetizer and they had the typical red sauce but were sitting on an aoli sauce too which was divine. Nice spin on plain old meatballs.

My wife had the organic chicken sandwich which was perfectly seasoned and moist.

I had the Poke’ nachos which were equally as good, I could have skipped the jalapeño peppers added to it though. Not fond of jalapeños in a poke’ bowl. Otherwise it was wonderful with its wonton chips.

I would suggest skipping the cannolis for desert. They were my least favorite of the whole meal. The inside is made with sort of a whipped, slightly sweetened cream instead of the standard ricotta and marscapone cheese. It also has some sort of chocolate looking chips on the exterior that had a crunch which I did not like. Go with the ice cream instead.

When I the area this place is certainly...

6 of us tried at downtown location. We were excited about a new place to try. Great atmosphere and decos but a little noisy. They were busy. Great service and wait staff. 4 of us ordered salads and the other two ordered a burger and a meatball sandwich. The salads were the smallest we've ever encountered at $11 each then add $7 for meat. Hardly any lettuce. Smaller than some dinner size salads. The burger was average size and the sandwich size was ok but not overly generous. I've never seen zucchini bites served this way. Literally 9 or 10 slices of zucchini for $10 or $11. Not zucchini sticks. Definitely not worth the price. We also had a side of chips. Decent size. Food taste was average. 5 of us had beer or wine and one a soft drink. We will definitely go back here but may skip food unless they change the way they plate meals. I'd rather pay a little more than be hungry when I leave. I am hopeful they will stay...

The Taphouse was a welcome surprise on a warm Sunday afternoon wandering around this curious area in revitalized old Indio, not far from Happy Alley, another worthwhile visit not far down the street. The Taphouse had a nice B&G vibe going on with a mix of locals and tourists. The bar grub was surprisingly tasty. I just went for their cheeseburger, fries and a coke. The chef got the medium-rare burger cooked to perfection. I would happily go back and order it again. We stopped by a vintage vinyl store down the street and an interesting vintage vintage store as well. A little further east (southeast) of the Taproom were some tall metal sculptures in park/grassy areas. Things are going on here people and it might be worth your stop off the I-10 to check it out.
