I went to school in Logan and in later years we moved to Layton. We've loved Cafe Sabor at both locations. So when we were heading back from Yellowstone on vacation one evening, to our surprise there is a Cafe Sabor in Island Park.
Our experience was NOT what we had hoped! The wait was long, but I can understand that considering the location being a vacation hub and it was the evening during the pandemic. To us it seemed to me like there was a serious lack of organization within the restaurant. After a long wait, we were seated into a tiny long booth. (There were 12 of us). It was extremely tight. Too tight! After ordering we waited and waited. It took WAY too long for the food to finally come. When the food arrived, it was only a few dishes at a time with large gaps of time before other plates arrived. Some people were squished so tightly we had to get creative with how we arranged the plates on the table so they would fit. My nephew had ordered the nachos from the kids menu. It was the poorest attempt at nachos in a restaurant I'd ever seen. Just chips with a very small amount of shredded chess melted over about 1/3 of the chips! Nothing else! That's just not right. The plates would arrive so far apart that many in our group finished their plates before some even got their food. The waitress didn't give us utensils til some time after some of the plates arrived. She didn't give use enough. We pointed this out. She fetched us a few more (we still were short several sets) and told us she'd be back. But she never returned with the utensils until my meal finally arrived (after an extemely LONG wait) and I told her that a few of us still didn't have any utensils. She then got us the remaining sets. (Never have I had a waitress forget utensils (let alone multiple times!) My food tasted good enough (I like Cafe Sabor's food). But I felt the portion size was lacking for the price and the long wait, and worst of all my food was just warm (fairly cool, not hot). It makes me wonder how long it was sitting. A few others in our family had the same complaint. The waitress never once refilled our waters. I havn't had that poor of an experience eating out in around a decade. I was beyond disappointed. I truly felt that any other option for eating out would have been better. I'll say it again, there seemed to be a serious flying by the seat of their pants feel. (Which I sympathize with during the pandemic) But this was worse somehow. It seemed like chaos to us. We've eaten out at other restaurants during busy evening hours during the pandemic. Never have we seen the same disorganization. Very disappointed with...

Read moreI'm leaving 1 star only because the food was decent, except for the guacamole which was super bland. However, the rest of the experience was absolutely awful. We ordered online on Oct. 17, 2020 and picked up in-person. They had one hostess working the front line, and she was prioritizing call-in orders over everyone standing there in-person (including people with dine-in reservations). When I finally got to the front of the line, our drinks were missing from our order, and she had to leave the front to go tell the kitchen. We also ordered $3 fries and $9 guacamole (pictured), which were absolutely not worth the money. I checked with the hostess to make sure our orders were correct, since this didn't seem right, and she was pretty rude to me about it. She was clearly really stressed, and I felt bad for her because she clearly needed backup, but she never once apologized or tried to make anyone's experience better. She asked if I wanted to leave my contact info to have the manager reach out to me about my order, and I said yes. I left my name, phone number, email address, and order number, and I have not been contacted. It's been 6 days. I spent over $100 here and it was such a frustrating experience and definitely not worth the money.
I absolutely would not recommend this place to anyone, and I would strongly suggest they reconsider their order-taking priorities. If a restaurant has an online ordering feature, they should redirect phone orders to their website OR at least ask phone orders to hold until they have served everyone in-person first. Also, be nicer, and get your host...
