My husband and I went here for our anniversary. The vibe was very upscale! Views are absolutely impeccable. I highly enjoyed watching golfers try to hit a ball over a body of water and waiting with anticipation to see if they could make it.
We made reservations in advance but it wasn’t busy at all when we went (around 5:30). When we were seated I was given a special hook that hung from the table to place my handbag on so it didn’t need to sit on the floor. We didn’t wait long at all for our waiter, and he was so so kind.
We started out with an appetizer. We got the crab cake. I am very very picky about crab cakes since I am originally from Maryland. I haven’t been able to find a good tasting one since I left the state. This crab cake was SO DELICIOUS! The sauce was incredible! Absolutely perfect appetizer! We also ordered the milk bread which tasted soooo soft. I noticed a lot of tables ordered the milk bread as an appetizer.
My husband and I ordered steaks, but different ones. He got the wagyu and I got the 6oz beef tenderloin (I wish there were more smaller cuts, the 6oz was the only small cut). His was more firm but had more flavor. Mine was super soft and buttery tasting. Both are incredible, just depends on preference! We ordered the beef tallow fries, have never had better!
We also ordered these sauces to go with our steaks: blue cheese fondue (it was ok), chimichurri (very good, my fave!), and the basalt signature sauce (it is a rich robust salty sauce. very good but very strong & masks the flavor of the natural steak which I didn’t prefer).
For dessert we couldn’t decide so we ordered the two we wanted. The first was the key lime pie. I wasn’t in the mood for key lime pie so I only had a couple bites but holy moly it blew my socks off. You have to eat it with the strawberries, it totally makes it!
The next dessert was the smores one. Incredible. The graham cracker part was amazing. All of it was amazing. I loved the caramel sauce you could dip each bite into, although I wish it was more of a salted caramel. Absolutely delicious.
Regarding the desserts, I wish there was a more chocolate-y option. I always love getting something very chocolate-y and rich, such as a chocolate mousse cake. Just felt there was something missing with the dessert menu.
The views were just incredible. I didn’t even feel like I was in St George anymore. There was so much green and so much water with waves. I thoroughly enjoyed watching everyone golf.
The only thing I kind of didn’t like was the restroom situation. The restroom itself has no door. It is completely open. If you’re in the front part of the restaurant you get to see everyone in the restroom at all times, coming out of stalls and washing their hands, and hearing toilets flush, which is a little off-putting. There are no separate women and mens sections, it’s all combined. It made me a little uncomfortable as a woman alone, walking past a man leaving his stall as I was trying to find an open stall to use.
Also, these stalls are very open underneath. there is a huge gap. This, combined with the no-door-at-all-open-concept restroom, if anyone happened to get sick, the entire restaurant would be able to hear AND smell it..which would be so embarrassing. The toilet paper also felt like tissue paper which was disappointing for such a high end restaurant.
The restroom experience is the only reason I have to give it under 5 stars. The food is incredible and I plan on coming again. The restroom just didn’t seem to match the standard and exquisite-ness of the rest of the restaurant.
I’d also like to add, we live here locally and had to drive here. We used Apple Maps and it totally took us to the wrong spot. We had to switch to Google Maps but it was still a little hard to find since it’s located in a resort, and the surrounding area of the resort is under intense construction. We had to do a lot of asking around on where this place was since there were no signs.
(I will say their to-go bags are amazing and super high quality and thick, which was pleasantly...
Read moreWe recently dined at Basalt to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish.
When our server first greeted us, he asked if we were celebrating anything. After we told him it was our anniversary, he responded by saying he had already had seven anniversaries that day and sounded irritated by it. That immediately made us feel unimportant and set the tone for the rest of the evening.
We ordered a bottle of wine, which we had to request three separate times to be decanted before it was finally done. When our server later came to apologize for the “delay” on our salad order, we had to inform him that we never ordered salads. About 15 minutes later, another server arrived with a split salad for our table, and when we told him it wasn’t ours, his only response was, “Well, I was told to bring it here.” Our server then returned to clarify and realized we had ordered the crab cake, rushing back to correct the mistake.
While we waited, the manager visited our table to apologize for running out of a steak entrée and offered us an upgraded cut at the same price. The issue? We hadn’t ordered steak at all. She left to figure it out but never circled back with any clarification.
When the crab cake finally arrived, it was over-seasoned, completely overpowering the flavor of the crab. I would not recommend this dish. Later, when our entrées came, my diver scallops were bland and paired with undercooked Brussels sprouts—again, not a dish I would recommend. My husband’s Wagyu steak was fine, but not impressive for the price. The one standout of the meal was the creamed corn side dish, which was truly delicious.
Toward the end of the meal, our server cleared our plates and without asking, brought us a crème brûlée and a lemon cake. Neither was what we would have ordered had we been shown a dessert menu, and both were standard at best. I overheard that several desserts had run out, which explained why we weren’t given a choice.
By the time we finished, the dinner had stretched to two and a half hours, filled with confusion, mistakes, and lackluster food. What was meant to be a special occasion left us disappointed and eager to leave. At one point, while waiting for our appetizers, we debated just paying for the wine and leaving, and in hindsight, we wish we had.
Overall, the service was disorganized, the food inconsistent, and the entire evening fell far below expectations for fine dining. Sadly, we cannot recommend Basalt and will not...
Read moreI can’t say enough good things about this place. We went for our anniversary and not only was the staff so attentive and aware in our celebrations but they brought us out a surprise dessert at the end to help us celebrate as well.
Our waiter (Abe) was one of those fabulous people. He gave great recommendations; some of which I would never have thought to try but I’m so glad I did! We started with the crab cakes. These weren’t my favorite (not the right texture and too fishy for me) but my husband loved them. Next was the watermelon salad. This was a major leap for me and I loved it. It had so many complimenting flavors that worked well together. I do have to say that this salad might not be a win for everyone but I could have ordered this for my main dish and left satisfied:) My husband and I ordered 2 different types of steak: if I remember right he got the ribeye. I ordered the 6oz beef tenderloin. After trying both I’m glad I ordered the tenderloin. Because he’s a blue cheese fan he ordered the blue cheese fondue and loved it. I got the truffle herb butter to go with mine and loved that option. As far as sides go, my one must do is ORDER THE CREAMED CORN! I typically am not drawn this type of side but I was not disappointed. So good! The mashed potatoes weren’t my favorite but my husband really liked them.
By this point we were extremely full but it was our anniversary so we had to get dessert lol:) we opted for something light and I can’t remember what it was called but I’ll post a picture of it for reference. It was super good but if I order this again I’d ask for a side of the raspberry syrup that was on our anniversary dessert and drizzle that on it. I discovered how good that tasted by accident. Hope you enjoy this restaurant as...
