When I give a place five stars it's because they exceeded in five different categories: uniqueness, taste, presentation, service, and the vibe, I'm so glad we got the recommendation to come here for brunch on Sunday. When we got there they were pretty busy, but we were still able to sit down within 15 minutes of arriving. The wait was well worth it though because not only was the food worth waiting for, but we got to check out the art district around the restaurant. The vibe of the whole area is really great. It's an art district in the middle of a desert. Because of COVID19 their ordering system is online and luckily it's quite user friendly. I ordered the Heaven Waffle which was beautifully presented, and a side of bacon, the mint coconut frozen lemonade, and a fruit bowl. The Heaven Waffle is a blue corn, gluten free waffle with berries, home made tasting whipped cream, peanut butter, and a delicious agave syrup. I'm not usually a fan of gluten free products because I feel like they don't taste as great as the original, but I loved this spin on the waffle. It had that familiar waffle taste to it, yet it had a little bit of a rougher texture that really vibes with my taste buds. It was like a symphony of flavors with each bite and unlike most waffles it was not overly sweet even with the agave syrup, berries and even the whipped cream. It was also incredibly filling despite it being only one waffle. The service was top notch, and although there was a mix-up with one of our orders it was handled amazingly. Greg (the chef and/or owner) easily helped us out and was incredibly friendly and a great host. The mint coconut frozen lemonade was alright and a little overpriced I thought. You couldn't even really taste the coconut which was unfortunate, but their mimosa's were apparently great according to the other people at the table. Overall a great place that I would definitely...
Read moreI visited this restaurant on a quiet Monday afternoon with my husband. Upon arrival, we were informed we could not be seated until our full party was present, which we understood and complied with. While waiting, we decided we’d like to just order espresso drinks. We asked to be seated so we could place an order, clarifying that our party wasn’t planning to eat but would be joining shortly as they were passing through and wanted to visit with us for a few minutes.
Unfortunately, we were met with unnecessary rigidity and dismissive behavior from the host. They refused to seat us at a table suitable for four, stating it was against policy since our party wasn’t present and wouldn’t be eating. This would have been understandable if the restaurant was busy or near capacity, but with only a handful of tables occupied, it felt unnecessarily harsh.
When we were eventually seated and ordered two espresso drinks, the waitress returned and said we couldn’t stay unless we ordered food, saying, “We’re not a coffee shop.” Despite the fact that we had already ordered drinks, we were asked to leave within minutes of sitting down. This policy, while perhaps standard during peak hours, seemed completely unnecessary in a nearly empty restaurant on a slow weekday.
As a business owner, I was taken aback by the lack of flexibility and the curt manner in which the situation was handled. Policies should be enforced with consideration of the circumstances. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unwelcome and deeply disappointed. I hope the management re-evaluates how these situations are handled in the future, as the approach taken today reflects poorly on the establishment. The only reason for 2 stars instead of one is because we have had good food...
Read moreHeard great things about this place so we stopped here for lunch. Great atmosphere, awesome surroundings, friendly staff, delicious looking menu. All this lulled me into ignoring my personal rule (never eating seafood more than 3 hours from the coast) and ordered the lunch special, fish and chips. Deep fried battered cod and chips. The FnCs came out and even before it got to the table it was immediate disappointment. 🥺 The batter was very thin and not fully covering the cod fillets, which allows the hot oil to remain in contact with the fish and instead of sealing the moisture in and steaming it. This allows the moisture to quickly boil out of the fillets and is more akin to hard fying in a super hot skillet which causes the fish to become chewy and not very pleasant to eat. The second disapointment was the fries, a simple error in that the fish was served ¼ inch cut fries. Although they were cooked beautifully, with the right crunch and the perfect golden brown, the fact that they are so thin means they not only hold a lot of fry oil per chip but (and this is the important part) they go cold very quickly and dont help with keeping the battered fish hot. So not only do you get cold fries you get cold fish too. This is why FnCs are sold wrapped in paper in other parts of the world. Im no foodie but being from New Zealand and growing up on fresh seafood this meal was on the low end of average, not terrible but a lot of room for improvement. All that said the Tartar sauce was delicious. So to sum up. Use ⅜ inch cut fries even steak fries, yes they will take longer to cook but the payoff is worth it, and make the batter a lot thicker with a nice malty beer for the the emulsifier. This will make even frozen fish taste delicious. Ask...
