We have lived in town for about 10 years now, and the one of the first thing everyone needs when they move to a new town is a good takeout place. This is not that place.
We had gone to a few other chinese places since we lived here, most of passable until we found something better. We started coming here several years ago because of the allure of getting both chinese and sushi. For most of our years patroning Mein King the food was decent-good, however they tended to screw up the orders fairly regularly. Normally it wasn’t a big deal because they would instantly make it right.
Well, the past few months that has totally changed. The food has started getting worse - they give it to us with almost no sauce, the food is dry, tastes like it had been sitting all day then microwaved, or just all around bad. As of late, the guy (not girl, the girls who answer the phone are extremely nice and helpful) that has taken our orders has been a huge jerk, screws up the orders every time by either billing us for somehing we didnt order, not giving us the food we did order, or plain just gives us the wrong food, and refuses to do anything about it when we come back.
The last time we called because they screwed up again, the guy was rude, argumentative, and told us to deal with it. We are never buying food from there again and let them know it.
If you want good takeout with at least passable sevice, do not buy from here. Once upon a time this place was good enough to be our go to, but no longer - the rot has set in.
Take your money...
Read moreMy food comes correct, (which is important because I have allergies) fast, and suuuper delicious. I have a very specific order and so far it has always been phenomenal. Beef on a stick, cooked to where it isn't too chewy and not over cooked; General Tso chicken with white rice; nothing special to be honest but compared to other local restaurants on par; (only difference to other places is, Mein King includes peppers while other restaurants do not (and actually gives it a spicier flavor come to think of it)) Chicken lo mein, the BEST. I can never go back to other restaurants (that don't cook it right in front of me that is) because of them; Lastly sweet and sour chicken, I can't even compare this to other local places the ratio of chicken to breading at Mein King is roughly 85% chicken, 15% breading, other places are closer to 98%-100% breading, 0-2% chicken and I know it may seem like an exaggeration but unfortunately it's not. [[This might just be a confirmation bias thing but I swear their fortune cookies are more fresh than other places]] This is honestly the only place around here if you're looking for delicious, classic Chinese food. Only thing I'm missing is chop sticks with my order (which you only get if you ask for, I just always forget)
Tl;Dr: Would I eat this every day for the rest of my life? Absolutely. Should I? Probably not, but I am really tempted. (also sorry for my over and incorrect punctuation)
Edit: also this is two days of food for me, love it as left overs, I am chunky but not...
Read moreWe usually don’t order from here but since our go-to Chinese takeout closed early due to the winter weather (snow day on 01/19/24) we decided to go with MK. I opt for delivery and placed the order two hours before dinner. We reside on the other side of Jackson closer to Cassville. We knew what we were expecting on wait time. We didn’t mind waiting longer due to the severity of the road clearance. An hour and a half later the food arrived and it was everything we expected worth at $70 (plus a generous $$$ for the driver who trekked down the snowy road - big thank you, whoever you are!.) Sushi was fresh! the entrees arrived hot! And the condiments were plenty. One star less for not automatically honoring the coupon if you spent a certain amount to receive a free fried rice/sushi roll. This should be added without asking. Furthermore, MK has our approval of good...
