If you are in Jackson and looking for a place to grab a bite, swing by Rosebud's! I grew up in Jackson, having moved there in the early 90s and honestly I don't remember Rosebud's even though it's original opening was in 1948. Since it's reopening in 2012 (not sure when it was closed) it has become a much talked about stop when in town. Before moving away in 2006, you would have been somewhat hard pressed to find as innovative of a menu as the modern day Rosebud's provides.
When walking into the cafe, we were asked if we wanted a table or to place a to go order. We took a minute to make sure that the picky eater in the group could find something to eat on the menu (it happened MUCH faster than it normally does) so we grabbed a table in the back. Our server was an awesome girl with short brown hair and a piercing. She was very talkative to our less Jackson-familiar guests and made them feel very comfortable. The atmosphere makes you feel like you've walked into an old farmhouse kitchen to me with old pictures, drying herbs, various antiques, with the benefit of a piano and tiny stage.
Our order consisted of the Monte Cristo, Waffle & Chicken sandwich, build-your-own turkey sandwich, and Gardener's salad. The Monte Cristo wasn't the Disneyland version that I was used to (with batter all around the bread deep fried to perfection); but it was still very excellent with each piece of bread having been pan fried! It was especially good dipping into the jam! The Waffle & Chicken sandwich was honestly just okay. This was my personal order. I think it was supposed to come with syrup on it but mine didn't. Perhaps that was what was missing to bridge that salty sweet gap that I was really looking for when I ordered the sandwich. Before dropping off the salad, the waitress let our friend know that the chef had actually put a side of turkey on it and asked if that was okay. We really appreciated her asking just in case he was vegetarian or vegan, but he was totally okay with it and especially so after the waitress said that we wouldn't be charged for the error. The side of turkey was more like a heap, so our friend ended up very happy. The same can be said of the turkey sandwich because that thing was huge and the feedback was very positive. In total we paid around $35 for the Monte Cristo and Waffle & Chicken sandwich including tip, so it's a little on the pricey side but the quantity of food you get for the price makes it worth it. Almost all of us took home half of what we ordered because the servings were so big.
When we paid we also had a good conversation with the cashier who wasn't a Jackson native, but had found a home in our small country town. Overall it was a great experience and everything you could ask for when you are hungry: good food and great service at a decent price for a generous portion. Definitely...
Read moreWe ordered take-out pumpkin pie and Irish soda bread to make our family’s Thanksgiving a little more special this year. Everything was spot on from the ordering and take out experience, to the presentation, to the food itself.
The phone ordering experience was easy and they took my payment over the phone. The food was reasonably priced for the quality. My mother went in to pick up the food the day before Thanksgiving, and she said it was obvious they are paying extra attention to adhering to Covid guidelines, keeping everything sanitary, and minimizing contact, which we really appreciate.
The Irish soda bread smelled amazing, it was hard not to break into it early! It was beautifully presented and delicious during dinner. Much nicer than our usual store bought rolls!
The pumpkin pie was the real star of the dinner however, it was the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever tasted. They used fresh pumpkin from their farm, and the pie was a rich brown color and a had beautiful pumpkin flavor. It was sweet but not too sweet - we highly recommend!
These folx are among the best people and food preparers in Amador County and their contribution to our dinner made it extraordinary. We will definitely be ordering from them again during Christmas! I can’t recommend Rosebud’s enough to give your holiday some...

Amazing people with even more amazing food. Such a welcoming cafe that evokes so many warm feelings. Stepping into this cafe, I knew immediately I was going to love it and I do.
On weekends, they have a special brunch menu and everything on there is delicious. I got the linguisa scramble and shared fresh beignets. The beignets come with 10 pieces which makes it easy to share! The beignets were fried perfectly and had such a good doughy consistency that worked well with the cream and powdered sugar. The linguisa scramble was sooo good! What I loved most about it was that the linguisa is mixed with a fresh bed of greens alongside crispy smashed red potatoes and topped with eggs cooked to your choice. First, my sunnyside up eggs were cooked perfectly (yolk still runny) and the combination of the linguisa sausage and the greens was not only smart but delicious since the greens balanced very well with the fattiness of the sausage. My other friends got the benedicts and the fish chips/fries and loved it.
Overall, we all loved our dishes and the hospitality was incredible. I would definitely stop by again on...
