This was the worst meal and service I have every experienced. We arrive around 5:30pm Saturday. There were three couples in the restaurant, three waitresses. Our party was five adults and four children who are not hard to please. Our waitress brought 1 basket of chips and salsa, maybe 2 ounces. Our beverages were iced tea, she returned to let know they were out of tea, they only had three glasses (Publix is next door to the restaurant). Our silverware was delivered to the table and left in a mound a the end of the table. No refills offered for the tea drinks or anyone else.
We ordered guacamole, cheso, and another basket of chips; she brought the sides but no chips. We asked for chips again, 20 min later, no chips. My nephew ordered Mariscada En Recado (shellfish stew). Mi Veracruz version of this dish consists of a frozen king leg, under sized blue crab and frozen shrimp which all had bee that had been over cooked. The seasoning, (mostly garlic) burned black and there was no liquid (stew). This was a market price meal of thirty-eight dollar meal.
The rest of our meals were basic, burrito, taco, and tamale dishes. The meat in the tacos looked like stew beef and the rice and beans were tasteless. Before ordering, I asked the waitress if the tamales were made fresh or were they frozen. She had to ask the cook and came back to say "they are made fresh" . Apparently, I should have asked what day they were made fresh. They looked as if they had been left under a heat lamp for a day, pork filling was horrible.
And for dessert! We orderred 5 churros cut into pieces for sharing and with no chocolate sauce on them. The waitress brought 5 churros approximately 14" long. We broke them in smaller pieces and everyone took a piece only to realize after the first bite, there was no cinnamon or sugar on them. The waitress came back to the table and stated "they were not ready she took the plate after everyone and returned the uneaten pieces back on the platter. We assumed she would return with 5 fresh churros cut into pieces and dipped in cinnamon and sugar. Much to our surprise 😮 she returned to the table with the same half-eaten churros that had been rolled in cinnamon and ssugar.I have to assume the kitchen used the same cinnamon and sugar mixture they use for all churro orders.
We left a 20.00 tip for the nine of us due to the fact that our waitress would have clean up our table.
The only thing I can say about this meal is this "I'm greatful for the time I was able spend with my visiting family and this is a experience that we willl never forget.
I only gave it one star because it would not allow them to be blank! Please do not roll the dice on this restaurant, save your three hundred dollars or stay with the ones you know! Respectfully, Mary W.
P.S. The rap music in the kitchen was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think in the bathroom area. Simply...
Read moreI just moved to the area and a friend told me this is a place to go when I asked about great restaurants in Arlington. It is sad that there is a small amount of sit down restaurants to have dinner. I have to say that this little ma and pa Mexican place in Publix plaza does not disappoint! I wanted a variety since it was my first time, so I ordered the combination plate with 3 items. I ordered a beef enchilada, beef taco, and beef burrito. It comes with refried beans and rice. It was just as good of not better than other local Mexican establishments! I tried the El Yucateco XXXTRA Hot Sauce with Chile Hananero and the server warned me it was really hot (it was medium spicy for me since I am a spice junky) and it was pretty good compared to most Mexican restaurant table sauces. He saw that I was liking the sauce so he brought out some spicy salsa to try. It was better than other places that are local and the heat was just right. The flavor was not the greatest but better than most for a "hotter" than the average salsa. The regular salsa was pretty good here as well! Also, the lady in the booth next to me was raving about their fresh fruit sangria! She said I should try it! If you happen to be on Merril Road and want Mexican, I would encourage you to try this place out. It is a shame that Google maps does not list this place when you search Mexican restaurants in this area. I will definitely be back! I am stuffed with all that food I ate...
Read moreI went to this restaurant the other day and ordered a chile relleno as well as a carne asada burrito and my wife ordered chicken enchiladas. The carne asada burrito was okay. For whatever reason, they chopped the steak into fine pieces and had more of a boiled rather than grilled texture giving it the consistency of roast beef. The chicken meat in the enchiladas were overcooked leaving dry stringy chicken meat with a "warmed over" flavor. The chile relleno was served as flat as a pancake and wasn't plump and stuffed with cheese and sauce like at other restaurants leaving a bit to be desired. I did really love the beans and Mexican rice compared to other restaurants in the area. Overall, I think Mi Rancho GTO is the #1 Mexican restaurant in the area and I would probably place this restaurant as #2 based on all the places we've been to so far. If they would switch out the boiled chicken for baked or grilled meat in the enchilada, it would go a long way to helping improve the taste. As for the steak, it would be helpful to go with small strips instead of finely minced meat and to use a grill to bring out the steak...
