Twelve of us attempted to come in for dinner tonight - we arrived right as they opened, and there wasn't a single customer in the restaurant. We weren't seated because the hostess had to go let the owner know we have a registered service dog. Not a therapy dog - a trained and licensed service dog.
The owner came out and said we couldn't have the dog there. We explained that she's a service dog and he said "this isn't a huge restaurant, there's no room for her" - as he gestured around to the completely empty restaurant.
We explained that she stays under the table on my feet - and he said it wasn't acceptable. I respectfully explained the state and federal law to him. He said "fine - then you can go buy a cage to put her in".
That's interesting... there's no room for her to be on my feet... but apparently there's room for a cage?
I explained to him that the law is very clear - and he started yelling "I know my rights". I once again explained the law and we said "no problem - the 12 of us will eat somewhere else and we'll be reporting you to the state and letting the world know about it". He became enraged and said FINE I'LL MAKE AN EXCEPTION.
We left anyway. I mean seriously - who in their right mind would trust this man to cook their food after that?!?!
As we left, I took a picture of the outside of the restaurant for documentation. He and one of his other employees (sneaking around the back) then approached our families and he started yelling at us again. I explained we were going to be reporting him. He said "see see I'm not denying you service". I explained that he very clearly had and that it was too late - the damage was done and we didn't trust him.
He then started screaming that he had it all on camera. I just smiled and said "outstanding - you can share the footage of you violating the law with law enforcement and the world". We then left.
Make sure to tell the world - if they're willing to deny SERVICE DOGS and their handlers their legal rights... what else are they doing to violate the law when it comes...

I’ve ordered the Vegetarian Saag, Dal Tadka, Palak Dal Khichdi, and various flavored Naan (Indian flatbread) from this location and each dish was fantastic. The Palak Dal Khichdi (yellow split lentil cooked with a tempered of mustard, cumin, garlic, onions, spinach and rice) is my current favorite and I order it to-go weekly. Honestly, the food is so fresh and tasty I have to keep myself from eating here daily. Although I’ve only sampled the vegetarian options, the dishes with meat that other diners have ordered all looked wonderfully appetizing, fresh, and hot. I’ve only ever ordered food for myself, but I believe the superior experience would be to dine in with friends, order several different dishes, and share with the table, in order to fully appreciate the variety of delectable flavors they have to offer.
In the dozens of times I have patronized this restaurant, I have only ever experienced friendly and efficient service. Regarding to-go orders specifically, my food is always carefully prepared and packaged, with meals well sealed, so there’s never a mess. The plastic containers used are durable, high quality, and reusable/recyclable.
As far as value goes, Spice Grill truly shines. One order of any of the aforementioned dishes typically providers me 3-4 meals (if Naan is ordered along with it) and everything reheats perfectly. Additionally, there’s a small discount if you are able to pay in cash.
Please be sure to visit this fantastic restaurant and sample its delicious offerings as soon as you can, you won’t be...
Read moreOur server Mounika was a delight. She's currently in school working on her masters, and since she speaks the queens English, along with several other languages, I can see how some may struggle with her very proper but perfect language etiquette. This was no issue for us, we breathe with closed mouths.
The food was fresh, hot and obviously prepared for us during our visit. Other restaurants in our area cook certain things in advance and then finish them when ordered, this restaurants doesn't. The only advice I could make to this restaurant would be remove the lamb chops as an appetizer and instead add some lamb dishes. My personal favorite food is Lamb Vindaloo, and my husband's is lamb curry. We loved the fact they offer northern Indian fair, which is typically using more fresh herbs and tomatoes instead of the brown based gravies. I am of course not Indian, but living here in Jax, FL I have had more then I ever believed I would. While I miss my beloved Indias Restaurant, nothing last forever and this business should have no problem thriving, as our community appreciates good prices, fantastic food and amazing service.
Cheers to you Mounika, you made my...
