Charlie's Place — Restaurant in Janesville

Update: called to speak to management and was told I’d get a call back, didn’t. Called again and was hung up on. So unprofessional. Will never be back and making sure everyone I speak to knows how trashy this bar has become!

Long gone are the good days of Charlie’s Place!!! Food is good, nothing to write home about, but it’s alright. I do like that they make their own French onion dip to go with the ruffles. Definitely recommend using the front door because unless you’re a “regular”, using the back entrance will get you instantly gawked at by a group of super unwelcoming old men. Think old guys from Muppets, but instead of being funny, they’re just despicably sexist and crude. I don’t appreciate how unchecked they seem to be in their language or behavior around other customers. They used to have great bartenders. Karissa was AMAZING!! She took pride in her work, and that’s rare nowadays. Definitely was heartbroken to hear she doesn’t work here anymore, my coworkers and husband also loved her. The day bartender, blond(I think her name was Cat) she was cool too. Definitely an interesting day when you spend the whole afternoon drinking triple strong drinks and only getting charged $10. I used to laugh at the people stumbling out at 3pm after two drinks until I was one once. 🤪 Life happens so I haven’t been out much the past couple years but wow have things changed! If they’re not closed by 9pm(fix your Google hours!), then you’re getting treated like an inconvenience! The whole bar feels sad now, almost like everyone has given up. It’s like everyone knows the ship is sinking but no one knows where the life...

I hate giving bad reviews, however, the day we visited did not deserve a good review unfortunately. It was a very hot day so we decided to sit inside and have dinner, this ended up being a horrible place to go when their A/C is not strong enough to cool the entire inside! The tables where we sat had fans trying to cool it off with barely any effect. Not to mention the fans looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. The inside is a run down bar, so nothing to look at. Food was just okay, nothing to come back for. The bartender was very nice, just one problem, you have to walk up to the bar to give your drink/food order. Only reason service was given 1 star. I understand staffing issues, but I believe that wasn't the issue. The one mixed drink was not how you correctly make an amaretto sour and just tasted off... they did not have strawberry margaritas, which is horrible when it is one of the most popular drinks ordered in the U.S.! It does not look good when the cook runs out the food, turns around to walk back & you can see the backside of his shirt is wet from sweat. We felt bad that he was probably cooking without decent A/C. Unfortunately, this seems more like a bar for your older regulars, which as John Taffer would say: This is a dying bar! We hope they can turn it around before it is too late, as they will never see newer clientele return at this rate. ...

Normally I would give this 5 stars. But yesterday 2/9/2020 I walked down to get a burger. I stood at the end of the bar by the front door waited more then 10 minutes to even have someone say "Hello be right with you". But instead the bartender was having a smoke which is fine but when she came in she walked in talk to the people at the end of the bar by back door got them a drink and then went into the kitchen. I was not the only one upset, I left and so did another person who was tired of waiting for a drink. I get it happens but this is the second time I have been there with this person working and I will NOT go in there again while she is working. I know the service can be much better then that for I have had it. I have to say even one of the older gentlemen sitting next to where I was standing went and said something to her as I was walking out the door. I did see someone in the kitchen and he just stood in the doorway and also did not...
