Schnitzelbank — Restaurant in Jasper

I am embarrassed. I took a very close friend and 4 other friends to the schnitzel bank to celebrate my friends birthday. I called and made reservations 4 days ahead. When we got there we were seated in timely manner but then the problems started. I need to say that I have been to the schnitzelbank several times over the years and have never had an experience like tonight. It took our waitress quite awhile to take our drink orders and bring us our drinks then she ran off without taking our orders. She came back to get our orders later but not until she took orders of people who were seated after we were. We mentioned that it was our friends birthday and she just said well happy birthday. She took our orders and we went to get our salad bar. It was wonderful! The high point of our visit. We were all hungry and started eating. We then got up for second plates. Still no entrees. After our second plate of salad there were still no entrees but we did not want to eat more salad. She never came around to see if we needed drinks nor did she remove the used plates. She finally started to bring our entrees and that was all she brought. About 5 mins later she brought the sides and by then our friend had cut into her steak. It was so well done it was dry. She ordered it medium. The waitress took it back and we started eating while our friend started eating her American fries. They were burnt to a crisp. Our entrees were good but we were done eating by the time her steak was brought back. It was not even the same cut of meat and it was so full of gristle that she could not eat it. She gave up at that point and we all decided to leave. The waitress did not charge her for the steak but did charge her the 13.00 for the salad bar which should have been 6.00 since it was ordered as an addition. We went to pay. That was an adventure in itself. They could not take the money for more than one check at a time. If that was the case why have 2 registers open. Unfortunately we will not be bringing anyone else here to celebrate. They used to give the birthday person a piece of pie or something. Plus that waitress never checked for anything. We used there catering services for our wedding. I cannot give 5 stars and sadly it has nothing to do with the food. The food was great! The staff the day of our wedding was professional and helpful. Leading up to our wedding once we had made our deposit it was difficult to reach the staff we were working with regarding the details of our wedding. It took about three weeks to get a quote on how much we actually owed them. They were not very understanding when we had to change things (which is bound to happen if you have ever planned a wedding). We also were told our prices were being raised less than 3 months before our wedding. This was a SIGNIFICANT price increase on things we had already put a deposit down on with no warning. After reviewing wording in the contract we found a loophole thankfully as what we agreed on initially is all we had budgeted for. I also made a phone call at one point because it had been about a week and half with no answer to an email. As the person picked up the phone I heard the person I had been dealing with call me crazy, when all I was trying to do was contact them to get our final count in to make her job easier. It was extremely unprofessional and uncalled for. She tried to play it off as a joke on the phone but even if it was it was in poor taste and left me speechless that someone would say that to someone they were doing business with. Let alone the person whose wedding it was for. To say I would recommend this to someone else is unlikely. Like I said the food was good, but the months before I would say is probably a headache I wish I could...

Fun restaurant! There are two entrances. We walked into the bar one. If you walk in the front, there is a cute gift shop. There is a board with specials. There was also a salad bar (which we didn't try). The food was a little pricey, but there was so much we couldn't eat everything! We were stuffed. We had the salad with house made blue cheese dressing and the dressing was good.

The waitress explained foods to us and was patient as we decided what we wanted. My husband got the beef (r something) and it was good and tender! He said the sauerkraut was ok. The German fries were one of my favorite. I got a plate with 3 meats that was suggested and I'm glad I did. I wanted the goulash, but I also got schnitzel, and bockwurst with red cabbage and potato glaze. The goulash was not what I expected, it is not tomato based. The spatzel was good but I didn't like the goulash on top. The bockwurst (pork and chive sausage), potato glaze, and red cabbage were my favorites. I recommend the plate of 3 if you don't know what you want because of the options and variety. The spicy mustard was not as spicy as I thought it would be (which was good for me). I'd...
