I really hate to do this but I am hoping they take the criticism as constructive. Got an "Italian, " sub to go. I wanted to try the place for the first time thinking anything with the name "hoagie, " had to have the art of sandwiches together.
I got three miles down the road before I took my first bite.
So many things went bad about this sandwich it was heartbreaking. The "Italian, " was just salami. No other meat. In every other sub shop I have been in,"Italian, " meant a combination of Italian meats. They didn't even have provolone cheese. (You don't put swiss on an Italian sandwich. That is sacrilege) I asked for lettuce, tomato, onion, and American cheese.
Then in a move, I have never heard before, they steamed the whole sandwich. What a mess. Steaming turned the bread turned to a soggy chewy goo The lettuce tomato and onion turned wilted like it was days old. (Imagine trying to eat a lettuce salad someone had boiled). The American cheese was processed stuff, not even real cheese, that also turned to a slimy mess.
I couldn't eat the thing and threw it away. So utterly disappointing.
Some suggestions. 1: A salami sub is not anything but a salami sub. Add some capicola, hot ham, pepperoni, mortadella...something that comes from Italy. 2: Get some provolone. 3: Toast your bread. NEVER ever steam it...never... 4: You also don't steam lettuce...ever...yuch! Look up a place called Dibella's in Rochester, NY. Their subs are top of the line and launched a one house sub shop into multiple locations with lines out the door all day.
To be fair after I ordered the sandwich I read the printed menu which gave the description as just salami, but that is not on the overhead board, and I had already paid for the sub so I decided to just try it. I do like salami, and the salami itself was fine.
I want them to succeed, but without feedback that hopefully gives them a desire to improve their product, I for one won't be a customer....
Read moreMy family makes eating at the Hoagie Shop a priority whenever we come back in town to visit family. My husband has been eating the steamed ham and cheese with yellow mustard on white, no pickles, for over 30 years....and he says the new owners (which of course are not new now!) have maintained the quality of the steamed sandwich. Wherever we go, he measures the quality against the Hoagie Shop and no one compares! I had a steamed corned beef, swiss on dark bread, no pickles and it was great. My favorite part of the meal was when the cashier handed my brother in law his drink without him even placing an order! They know his order by heart and acted upon it. We have happily introduced the Hoagie Shop to our 2 daughters when they were young and now our 2 son in laws, and 3 grandchildren. We hope they are eating there for the next 30 years too. Thanks for being our...
Read moreFirst time coming to the shop and I have to say the food is delicious. The only thing I had a problem with was the customer service. An employee of the establishment had a dispute with a guest at the drive through. She proceeded to talk ill of the customer as they drove off. Then she started talking about the driver to a customer standing in line saying she wanted to “throw a French fry in their face” very unprofessional of her to talk that way about someone. I was waiting for my food for 10 minutes and I noticed 2 employees taking orders making snard remarks about each of the customers in the drive through. I was there long enough to notice their disrespect to each customer. I was not happy about it all. But hey the food...
