Ordered fish 'n chips today after reading a positive review. My meal was truly awful. The three pieces of fish had been fried in the rancid frying oil for far too long. The breading was cooked dark and had become saturated with old cooking oil that had the bitter, burnt taste that comes that comes from being overused and contaminated with the residue of far too many prior meals. The fish within was a soggy, oily mush on the inside. Curious, I poked the breading away and tried two small bites of the fish anyway. Big mistake. For hours afterward, the horrible taste kept coming up as mini-belches, despite having had just those two nibbles. Unexpectedly, the side of rice was adulterated with that flavor of old cooking oil. Because I was hungry, I was tempted to just put up with the off flavor and eat the rice regardless, but it was just too unappetizing. I was surprised to discover that the fries were not quite as bad as the other stuff, but that ubiquitous bad fry oil tainted their flavor and I could only eat a few of the fries before pushing the plate away. On a positive note, I had ordered chicken rice soup with the meal and enjoyed it, so I think it is likely a safe bet for you. Everything else was so disgusting, however, that the tasty soup was not enough to overcome the overall one-star rating I give to the meal. I realize that there are a lot of 4- and 5-star ratings for this restaurant. My review here is just to warn you that your own experience may not be a...
Read moreGreat local place with a long history in the neighborhood. The menu is extensive and offers options for everyone. The service is friendly and quick, and the interior is clean and welcoming. There’s an outdoor patio covered in grape vines if you’d like to sit outside, but we’ve always just done carryout. Prices are great for the quality and speed and it’s an ideal place to grab lunch while working on a weekend project, or dinner on a work night. I’ve personally had almost all of their menu, and really pleased with everything. Notable standouts are the full roasted chicken, ribs and gyros. The cheeseburger is solid, and classic, not super fancy but delicious. Soups are great and I have no idea what magic goes into the rice pilaf, but despite multiple attempts to make it at home just can’t replace how good it is here.
Parking is easy, both the lot off of Cicero and the large lot in the back of the building. Wait for counter service orders is almost always 10 mins or less no matter the items.
Definitely a favorite of ours and a staple in the...
Read moreSecond time visiting. We stopped in once for a quick snack a couple weeks ago. Menu looked interesting so we decided to give it another shot. We started with our order being wrong followed by bad food. Gyro was super cold and tasted undercooked, stopped eating it after a couple of bites didn't want to risk getting sick. Ribs were cold, seemed like they just slapped warm BBQ sauce on it and sent it out. We got our food in leas than 5 minutes, I Should of know there was an issue with food because of that. Food wasn't on the counter for more than 30 seconds so it's not like it sat there getting cold. Atmosphere was ok, couple of the tables were dirty with some kind of food on them. Some pee coming out of the men's bathroom urinal into dinning room which I'm sure someone just missed and didn't tell staff. Food wise definitely not worth a...
