This was our first time there but definitely will not be the last. Looking for somewhere to eat, I used my Groupon app to search for something Middle Eastern and hopefully nearby. Luckily, we found both. Apparently we have driven by this place so many times as we live about 15 minutes away so in Oak Park, not realizing it ever existed.
When we arrived and opened the door, we were happy to see a clean and nicely decorated establishment with several dinners there even on a Saturday afternoon at 4:45pm. The waitress who attended us was very friendly. After looking at the menu we decided to start with a couple appetizers, the ubiquitous hummus and a simple salad of cucumbers and yogurt; both delicious and the hummus presented beautifully with tomato and thin sliced pickles on the cardinal points on the plate. Both were served with very hot grilled pita slices.
We each ordered an entree consisting of a beef kofta, and chicken shawarma. Both entrees consisted of a very tasty smoky yellow rice, grilled onions, tomato and jalepeno. Both entrees like the appetizers, were aesthetically presented, had an inticing aroma that made you want to immediately dive in and the taste of both dishes surpassed the aroma.
The servings were ample and the prices extremely reasonable independent of the Groupon deal and the entire experience is worth participating if ever near Belmont and...
Read moreWe went to try to eat a late dinner here about 8pm just last night. When being greeted, it sounded more like a question . We asked if we could sit anywhere and the guy said yes. He gave us menus and gave us a few minutes to look through it. He came back and asked us "what can we get you?" When we said our order He proceeded to say that the cook was busy without further explanation. Moment of silence(that seemed eternal) we looked at each other trying to figure out what was going on? Like ok? Soo why did he ask for the order if unable to make it? Why is the place open if no cook? We had to ask so can we order ? How long would we have to wait ? The guy proceeded to say " I don't know" . Without further explanation. We came in excited to eat dinner because it was our 1st time and because my sister recommended the food. We live a few blocks away so all we wanted to do was try and support our local community restaurants but by far this was very disappointing. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier maybe? But the doors were wide open to let customers in , why have a restaurant open if no cook to make food? Maybe a sign letting customers know to come back? Or lock the doors temporarily while the cook is not busy? Saying the cook is busy without further explanation is ridiculous and was a waste...
Read moreDefinitely had a five-star experience yesterday! One, we had a very large group to come in. We were accommodated very professionally.
The young man who served us was named Jacob. Jacob worked hard and was very attentive to basically the entire restaurant as he was the only waiter.
Jacob remained polite, patient, professional and very calm the ENTIRE time he served the tables. He did a very excellent job in my opinion. Also a shout out to the cooks! Ahmod and the "Uncle" very nice people.
I loved how the prices were very reasonable! I ordered the Falafel wrap. I'm going to be honest about the actual size of the wrap is much smaller than the one advertised on the menu. It also was a little dry to where I had to ask for a extra tahini sauce. They're also menu items that were not available today such as the lamb.
If I ever go here again, I will definitely be ordering the bowl. As they were brought to the table they looked really good. I should have got one this time. Other than that the fries were really good. It was also top with some pickled vegetables which were good as well. The rice was really good...
