I get the urge to leave a 5 star review for this amazing spot every time i eat their breakfast sandwich (yeah, they’re that good) and that’s pretty frequently. I live in the neighborhood and while my husband can eat anything, i’m a gluten free vegetarian. It’s tough having dietary restrictions, but I never miss out at Moonwalker. I love that they have so many amazing gf and vegetarian friendly options for me, but amazing options for him, too, including frequently changing specials. Their gluten free bun is insanely good (like i truly cannot believe it’s gluten free!!!!!) and every ingredient is so fresh, extremely flavorful (i always get multiple aiolis) and made fresh. They make as much as possible in house, and I’ve never once had a bad item from their menu. I personally like to place an order for pickup, because it’s always ready SO fast and waiting for me when i get there. I also think their lattes are AMAZING. the banana bread latte specifically is a religious experience. Moonwalker is a little pricy, which is the ONLY reason I don’t get a breakfast sandwich and a latte there every single day. It’s about $30 for a breakfast sandwich and a latte plus tip, which is kind of a lot for takeout, but to me it’s totallyyy worth it for the AMAZING quality, fresh and delicious ingredients, and wonderful service. You get what you pay for and they’re worth every penny. They are an amazing local spot and I am so happy to have them in the neighborhood- they’re truly the best. I hope they’re here forever and ever and that they develop some kind of reward program so i can eat more breakfast sandwiches and lattes even when they’re not in...
Read moreThis was the first place I stopped when I arrived in Chicago; I came because I saw on Happy Cow that they had vegan items. The food was good, the staff is warm, and the atmosphere is nice.
Unfortunately, I feel compelled to give a 3-star review versus a 5-star because of their pricing. They upcharge for vegan items, which is not listed on their menu. They also apply a surcharge to the entire bill, which is stated on a sign near the register, but doesn't stipulate how much. Apparently it's a percentage of the total bill. Then, they ask for a tip on top of all of that even though it's not table service.
The net result is that I paid $30 for a sandwich and two baked goods, at least $9 more than I expected to spend.
As a small business owner myself, I understand that the costs of doing business have gone up. But the lack of transparency about their pricing (and quite frankly, the fact that there's a unposted surcharge for being vegan feels deceitful). Build ALL of the costs of doing business into your pricing; don't add a ton of surcharges to the final bill. You are effectively raising your prices by adding surcharges the difference to the end consumer is that they don't know what their bill will be.
The result is this: I will never come back here and I certainly can't recommend that anyone else go here. This was - by far - one of the more expensive places I went when I was in Chicago, and I definitely didn't expect it to be when I looked it up and when I walked in and...
Read moreThe past few months, we've been wanting to come back here but other things got in the way and when we were free, they were closed. Today, it was the day! It was meant to be. I got their seasonal/holiday drink, an iced coquito latte. My teen had an iced banana bread latte. They were delicious and very refreshing on this nice day. My teen got an avocado toast and and apple fritter (from Do•Rite Donuts). I had the Moonwalker breakfast sandwich with an over easy egg and bacon followed with another Do•Rite Donut, chocolate glazed old fashioned. The egg on the sandwich was perfectly cooked and the yolk was so creamy smooth that when I took the first bite it almost got my short. Thank you for thr paper wrapper the sandwich came in and blocked it from getting my short. The avocado toast looked too good to eat that my teen decided they were going to save half of it for later. The donuts, they are donuts, they are good and you know how that goes. Blink and they disappear. We really look forward to going back. There is some outdoor seating. Since the weather was pleasant, we decide to enjoy our meal outdoors. We had such a wonderful time. Staff is great and helpful. Very friendly and wonderful atmosphere that makes you want to keep coming back. Now if they can offer a coffee with cardamom in it, I'll...
